Time for real action on distracted driving

-

Obviously the distracted driver law is not working. Everywhere you look there is some bonehead on the phone while they are driving. Don’t believe me? Just stand on any street corner and watch!

The fines are not working to deter this situation. Want a solution? First: More police monitoring for cellphone infractions. (This won’t take too long if they have the jam to try the following solution. Police should wear body cams, so there is no doubt as to the authenticity of the crime.)

Second: Seize the phone immediately and impound it for a week. (no ifs, ands and buts, lawyers. If you are on the side of the law, and are in favour of fixing a horrible situation, maybe you should forgo the money and do something to help!)

Third: If a second offence occurs, impound the vehicle for a week. If you don’t think this won’t help fix the situation, I think maybe you are one of those people on the phone.

And, oh, the constitutional rights situation? Should the victims not have more rights than someone who just ran over them or smashed into their car because they were texting or talking on the phone?

Time someone got a grip on reality and fixed this mess! Today! Don’t study it for months and months like you usually do.
