Comets girls post second win of the season

The Raymond Comets girls basketball team improved to 20 in the early-going of the season.

The Comets hosted the Catholic Central Cougars during Southern Alberta High School Basketball League action Thursday night in Raymond and notched an 8861 win to move into an early tie with the Magrath Pandas and the Medicine Hat Kwahommies.

Leading the Comets was Kansas Long with 28 points. Ivy Jensen added 20 points for Raymond.

Halli Baker chipped in with 14 points for the Comets.

For the Cougars, Kyra Collier led the way with 14 points, Gracie Boser had 12 and Chloe Bevans hit for 10.

In the junior varsity game the Cougars prevailed 70-55 as Collier had a 28-point night and Tori Tamayose and Jordan Goruk each scored 11.

Taylor Graves and Talani Iwaasa led the Comets with 12 points each and Haely Lamontagne had 10.

On Wednesday night, the Magrath Pandas scored an 8959 win over the Taber W.R. Myers Rebels.

The Pandas are 2-0 on the season, while the Rebels are 02.

In boys action Wednesday night, the Cardston Cougars beat the Chinook Coyotes 10330 in Cardston to improve to 30 on the season.

The night before, the Cougars were victorious on the road, topping the Raymond Comets 116-95.

Leading Cardston was Taylor Barfuss with 23 points. Ty Lewis (18 points), Ty Schaffer (16), Adyn Card (15), Mikhail Moojalsky (14) and Ben Atwood (13) also topped the 10-point mark for the Cougars.

For the Comets, Parker Graves had a 30-point night, while Jeter Heggie and Drake Still each added 20 points.

Garrett Hasegawa put up 19 points for the Comets.

In the junior varsity game, the Cougars won 112-82 as Mike Olsen paced Cardston with 30 points.

Mitch Olsen added 20 points, Isaac Atwood, had 16, Dennon Jensen scored 16 and Zack Leavitt drained 14.

Jaxon West had a 32-point outing for the Comets and Tanner Salmon added 21.
