Several local options for New Year’s Eve

There are plenty of options for local residents looking to get out and celebrate New Year’s Eve on Sunday.

A fireworks display is planned for Exhibition Park beginning at 9 p.m. in the south parking area. In addition to welcoming the new year with many bangs, the event is also a thank you for all the support Exhibition Park received during its 120th anniversar­y and Canada 150 celebratio­ns this past year.

The City is also wrapping up its final Canada 150 activities this weekend.

On Sunday, the first 150 people at Nicholas Sheran Pool will swim for free, marking the final Canada 150 Swim. Nicholas Sheran Pool will be open from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

For those looking to party, there will be a New Year’s Eve party at the Italian Canadian Club featuring live music by the Bamboo Guppies, cocktails and an Italian buffet feast. Tickets are $40 and must be purchased in advance by calling or texting 403317-3977.

A New Year’s Eve Gala at the Coast Lethbridge Hotel and Conference Centre will feature a five-course meal catered by LA Chefs and include cocktails, champagne at midnight and latenight snacks. Entertainm­ent will be covered by Cal Toth and the Chevelles. Tickets cost $75 and are available through eventbrite.ca.

The Swing Bridge Dance Club is hosting The Madhatters Ball, a New Year’s Eve in Wonderland. The event will feature live music by The Ellen Doty Band, Cirque performanc­es by La Rouge Company, door prizes, and a costume contest — attendees are invited to dress fancy or as their favourite “Alice in Wonderland” characters.

Barring a cold weather cancellati­on, Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden is hosting Joya No Kane, a special New Year’s Eve event which will feature access to the Winter Lights Festival, sleigh rides, sake service, and entertainm­ent. Beginning at 11:30 p.m. for Joya No Kane, the garden’s Friendship Bell will be rung 108 times to rid the celebrants of their worldly desires.

The event is an annual Japanese New Year’s Eve tradition. Admission is free after 11 p.m. There are also a number of bars, pubs and establishm­ents around the city hosting New Year’s Eve events.

Casino Lethbridge is hosting an event which includes a dinner buffet, party favours and champagne at midnight, and musical guests Uncovered set to hit the stage at 9 p.m. Tickets are available at Guest Services.

The Owl Acoustic Lounge will feature a “Magically Adequate NYE” with live local funk group Adequate and a live magic show featuring Ben Price.

Hudsons will ring in the new year with a party that will include a midnight toast. Tickets are $10 in advance and include entry and a compliment­ary drink ticket. More informatio­n is available on their Facebook page.

Mocha Cabana is presenting an evening with classical guitar talent Dale Ketcheson and three- and four-course prixe fixe meals from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. For reservatio­ns, call 403-329-6243.

The Slice Bar and Grill is offering a night of music and dancing with musical act Papa King featuring The Boogie Machine. The evening will also include door prizes, a midnight countdown, and compliment­ary champagne service with a $10 cover. Tickets are available at The Slice and at Blueprint Records.
