Lethbridge Herald

Library offers lots to do

- Caroline Moynihan

In thinking about all the questions that I get asked as a librarian at Lethbridge Public Library, I realized that the number-one question I am asked just about everywhere I go is: In the age of the internet, what is the point of libraries?

Well, let me tell you about all of the amazing things your Lethbridge Public Library has to offer!

We will always have the wonderful books, audio books, DVDs and CDs you can check out at the library, or while in the comfort of your home through Overdrive and Hoopla databases; but did you know that with your library card you can also take an online course offered through Gale Courses, learn a new language through Mango Languages, or even look up what the front page of the Lethbridge Herald was on the day you were born?

Looking for something to do? With Lethbridge Presents you can enter weekly draws to win free passes to sporting, cultural, and city-wide events. If you have children visiting for a week or two, you can borrow toys from our Toy Lending Library, or try out some of the board games we have available at The Crossings Branch.

Have you always wanted to try snowshoeing but don’t want to commit to purchasing a pair? I’ve got some exciting news: we have snowshoes as part of our physical literacy kits that you can borrow and try out.

We also offer weekly programs, from learning the basics of computers, to story time, and teen programs such as Girl Power and Geekdom and Bowties are Cool, or perhaps you would be interested in coming out to one of our Friday Night Films.

Our Family Literacy Kits have books, toys, a CD or DVD, all carefully selected to help make reading a fun activity for the whole family.

From reading to sports to printing your resume, Lethbridge Public Library has got you covered.

As a community space, the library is truly one of the last places that is for everyone, and we welcome everyone. Please come check us out, and discover all the wonderful things that you might be missing out on! Wishing you all the best for 2018 — we’ll see you in the new year!
