• West Wind Gymnastics Club offers drop-in fun on Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to practise your gymnastic skills in a friendly, supervised environment. Age 5 and under $6 and must be accompanied by an adult; 6 and older $12.
• Compassionate Friends, a non-profit international support group for parents who have had a child die, meets the first
Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.noon at McKillop United Church, 2329 15 Ave. S. (but is not affiliated with the church). Parents and their supporting family members or friends are encouraged to attend and observe or talk about their experiences — it is just parents talking to parents. The tragedy could have happened last week or 10 years ago; the child could be an infant or an adult.
• Helen Schuler Nature Centre’s Junior Naturalists program for ages 610 continues Saturdays in January from 10 a.m.-noon. Schedule includes: Jan. 6 Mice are Nice; Jan. 13 - Mice are Nice;
Jan. 20 - Recipe for a Rainbow; Jan. 27 Recipe for a Rainbow. Adults are required to sign children into this free drop-in program and pick them up promptly at noon.
• Kids Club crafting classes take place on weekends at Michael’s Craft Store at Park Place, designed for kids of all ages. The January schedule includes: Jan. 6, 10 a.m.-noon - Get into the winter spirit with a snowman canvas; Jan. 13, 10 a.m.-noon - Create a spirited winter snowman page marker; Jan. 20, 10 a.m.-noon - Make a winter wonderland with pony bead snowflakes; Jan. 27, 10 a.m.-noon - Make fun mustache and unicorn frames; Feb. 3, 10 a.m.-noon - Catch a love bug ahead of Valentine’s Day. Sign up in store or online, or just drop in; ages 3+ (parent of guardian must remain on premises during the event). Cost: $2 per project, supplies included.
• The Blue Ridge Mountain Country Society’s monthly jam takes place Jan. 7 at the Shaughnessy Community Centre at 1 p.m.; supper to follow. Come and enjoy an afternoon of music and dancing.
• Galt Museum’s Cafe Galt program for adults and seniors continues Jan. 7 from 2-3 p.m., featuring “Convictions.” Join Lindsay Vallance, writer of the Picariello Walking Tours and Radio Play, along with her cast as they tell the tale of a son bringing a young woman home to meet his parents during the sensational media coverage of the Picariello trial. Old wounds are reopened, prejudices are exposed, tea is consumed. Admission fees apply (includes exhibit access); free to annual pass holders.
• Narcotics Anonymous meets Sundays at 7 p.m. at Chinook Meeting Hall, 408 13 St. N. (back door entrance off back alley); Tuesdays and Thursdays (new beginners group), 7 p.m. at Chinook Meeting Hall; Wednesdays, 7 p.m. at Christ Trinity Lutheran Church, 416 12 St. S. • Lethbridge Brain Trauma Support Society, for brain injury survivors and their families and friends, will meet Monday, 7:30 p.m., St. Michael’s Health Centre, 1400 9 Ave. S., Lethbridge, east door entrance. The group normally meets the first Monday of the month, but when that is a holiday, the meeting moves to the second Monday.
• Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization will offer Zentangle Art #1 Mondays, Jan. 8-29 from 1-3 p.m. at the LSCO, 500 11 St. S. Known as “Yoga for the Brain,” Zentangle Art creates a sense of calm, lowers stress, increases focus and concentration, increases creativity and problem solving. • The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will visit the Lethbridge Public Library’s Main Branch Jan. 8–13 in the Theatre Gallery. The film lineup will include: The Last Honey Hunter (2017), Best Film: Mountain Culture; Intersection: Micayla Gatto (2017), Best Film: Mountain Sports; Into Twin Galaxies (2017), Special Jury Mention; The Frozen Road (2017), Special Jury Mention. • Seasons Lethbridge, 1730 10 Ave. S. (across from the hospital), will host a Mini Spa Day Jan. 9 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., featuring mini pedicures, mini manicures, mini massages at reasonably priced senior rates. Walk-ins welcomed.
• The Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion #4 will holding their general meeting Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at 324 Mayor Magrath S., north door. Please come out and support the Ladies Auxiliary. For information, call Marla at 403-328-5235.
• Revellers Dinner and Games Night will be held Jan. 10 at the basement level at The Keg (Country Kitchen Catering) on Mayor Magrath Drive South (facility is wheelchair accessible). Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:30. Cost is $20 per person. Newcomers - are you a crib or whist enthusiast? Come for a great dinner and a night of cards. • Registration for the 2018 Lethbridge and District Music and Speech Arts Festival is open. • Helen Schuler Nature Centre offers Story Walk continuing until Jan. 11, “Once Upon a Northern Night.” Enjoy a children’s book as you walk the trails. • Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization will offer “Introduction to Computers” Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 15-24 from 10 a.m.noon at the LSCO, 500 11 St. S. This class is designed for anyone learning to use a computer for the first time, or for anyone who feels lost in front of a modern computer. The class will guide you in the basics of using the computer, and allow you to navigate the computer more confidently. Fee: $30 for LSCO members, $50 for non-members. • All women are invited to a brunch and program Jan. 16 at 9:30 a.m. at Luigi’s Banquet Room in Taber. • Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization will offer “Movement Medicine” Thursdays, Jan. 18-March 29 (no class Feb. 22) from 5:15-6:15 p.m. at the LSCO, 500 11 St. S. (Free demonstration class Jan. 11 at 5:15 p.m.) Nia-inspired Movement Medicine is a celebration of the way your body moves — a blend of dance, sing a long music, martial and healing arts. • The National Association of Federal Retirees (NAFR-FSNA) will hold a Southern Alberta Branch annual members’ luncheon meeting Jan. 19 at Country Kitchen Catering (below the Keg Restaurant), 1715 Mayor Magrath Drive S. Doors open at 11:15 a.m. Lunch of beef on a bun will be served shortly after 12:15 p.m. Guest speaker will be Lethbridge East MLA Maria Fitzpatrick, who is a member of the association. • The annual Lethbridge Antique and Toy Show and Sale will take place Jan. 20-21 at the South Pavilion at Exhibition Park, running Jan. 20 from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and Jan. 21 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission $4 (12 and under free); proceeds go to charity. Featuring antique and vintage furniture, jewellery, glassware, toys and games; farmhouse, country and cottage decor; diecast, sport, military, comic, coin and farm collectibles; handmade dolls, barnwood frames, quilts and more. • Transitions, a 15-week peer support program to help those who are separated or divorced, will take place Tuesday evenings beginning Jan. 30 from 7-9 p.m. at St. Basil’s Parish Hall (604 13 St. N.). Participants will meet once a week to reflect upon and discuss topics such as self-esteem, grief, stress, anger, guilt, blame, loneliness, forgiveness, blended families and more. • Minus One is a bereavement support group for younger widowed women in the Lethbridge area. If you have lost your spouse/life partner, Minus One offers understanding, encouragement, inspiration, friendship and social gatherings.
