GAME DAY PREVIEW

Tonight Saturday, Jan. 6

- Dustin Forbes

Canes vs. Hitmen:

The Lethbridge Hurricanes welcome the Calgary Hitmen tonight at the ENMAX Centre at 7:00pm. Tonight will be the final of six meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Hitmen.

The Rivalry:

The Hurricanes and Hitmen complete their six game season series tonight. The ‘Canes have posted a 2-2-1-0 record against Calgary this year. The ‘Canes won the first two games of the season series, but Calgary has taken each of the last three headto-heads.

Not Long Ago:

The ‘Canes and Hitmen faced off just one week ago as they dropped a 3-2 overtime decision last Saturday in the final game of 2017 for both teams. The ‘Canes pulled ahead 2-0 in that game after the first period, but two second period goals by the Hitmen and an OT winner by Mark Kastelic helped Calgary to the victory.

Solo Leader:

On Tuesday, Stuart Skinner became the all-time leader in Lethbridge Hurricanes history in career shutout’s as he registered his tenth gooseegg with 20 saves against the Kootenay Ice. He surpassed Logan Koopmans for the alltime lead. Skinner has four shutouts this season.

Moving Pieces:

On Wednesday, the Hitmen made a trade with the Victoria Royals. Calgary dealt import forward Andrei Grishakov to the Royals in exchange for a third round draft pick in 2019. Grishakov had burnt the Hurricanes this season with five of his ten goals coming against the ‘Canes.

Will He Or Won’t He:

The big scuttlebutt around the WHL is whether or not the Hitmen will trade Jake Bean or not. Bean, who is in his fourth season in the WHL, just finished competing at the World Junior Championship with Team Canada. Bean, who is a first round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes, will covet a big return. Trade deadline is Wednesday, January 10th.

Next Home Game:

The Hurricanes will be back at the ENMAX Centre on Tuesday, January 9th when they welcome the Red Deer Rebels at 7:00pm. Tickets are available online, by calling 403-329-SEAT (7328) or by visiting the ENMAX Centre Ticket Centre.
