“I know Giorgio from before, I so just wished him good luck and told him to have fun and take them as far as they can in the playoffs. I know with a guy like that and a goalie like Stuart they should be pretty successful in Swift Current.”

As the three players depart, Morrison and the four skaters from Swift Current come in. The product of Prince George is ready to contribute.

“They made a couple of trades this morning and I think it’s a big thing that they have a couple of guys coming in,” said Morrison. “Guys have to step up. I’m capable of being that guy and I’m excited to get going. Obviously, it was a bit of a surprise, but now I see the positivity in the room. I’ll have fun with it and try to help out the team as much as I can.”

In 42 games with the Giants this season, Morrison tallied 11 goals and 35 points in 42 games.

“I think I’m more of a play-making forward, probably a quicker player that can work hard and get to the net and hopefully help out on offence,” said the six-foot, 171-pound centre. “I’ve been trying to round out my game more lately as well, so I’ll keep working on that side of things and help the team in any way I can.”

Hurricanes general manager Peter Anholt called Monday’s swap “a pure hockey move.”

“Riddle was a good player for us, but being an overage in that position, we felt we could make that change. Brad Morrison is a very, very skilled player, a dangerous player. With the move (Tuesday) we feel that with him coming into our lineup that really helps. Certainly, losing Riddle is a key, too. He’s such a quality kid. But from a skill standpoint Morrison really adds to our skill up front.”

Whether or not the Hurricanes are done dealing with deadline set for this afternoon remains to be seen as the Canes prepared for the Red Deer Rebels Tuesday night.

“Let’s take a breath, we’ll see. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next 24 hours,” said Anholt. “We have a game tonight and we expect our players to be professional and prepare for a game we feel we should win. It’s a divisional game and we’ve let too many divisional games slip away already.”
