Scheidegge­r stays alive in Scotties B event

Lethbridge’s Casey Scheidegge­r remained alive in the B event qualifier after play Thursday at the 2018 Jiffy Lube Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Casey Scheidegge­r, with third Carey-Anne McTaggart, second Jessie Scheidegge­r and lead Kristie Moore, qualifying out of Grande Prairie, split their two games Thursday, losing 9-6 to Val Sweeting of Edmonton in the morning draw.

Scheidegge­r rebounded in B event play with a 7-4 win over Laura Crocker of Edmonton, featuring Lethbridge’s Taylor McDonald at second.

The other morning contest had Chelsea Carey of Calgary outlasting Shannon Kleibrink of Okotoks 7-5.

Carey then earned the first qualifier in the A event with a 7-4 win over Sweeting in the evening.

Lethbridge’s other rink, Jodi Marthaller, curling with Jody McNabb, Nicole Larson and Valerie Ekelund, dropped to the C event after a 10-7 loss to Delia DeJong of Sexsmith.

In other B event play Thursday it was: Crocker over Geri-Lynn Ramsey of Calgary 75; Nadine Scotland of Calgary over Jessie Hunkin of Edmonton 9-5; Marla Sherrer of Lacombe over Amanda Craigie of Calgary 107; Kleibrink over Scotland 9-8; and DeJong over Sherrer 9-2.

Scheidegge­r will return to action today at 2 p.m. against Kleibrink in the B event semifinal while Marthaller plays Scotland today at 9 a.m. in the C event.
