Pronghorn basketball teams return home

After beginning the second half of their Canada West seasons on losing notes, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s and women’s basketball teams look to rebound at home this weekend.

The Pronghorns host the UBC Thunderbirds tonight and Saturday at the 1st Choice Savings Centre as both teams look to build on their 10-4 records following 0-2 showings in Winnipeg last weekend against the Manitoba Bisons.

For the Pronghorn men, they face another 10-win team as the 10-2 Thunderbirds come calling.

With leading scorer Dejon Burdeaux injured, Zac Overwater, Saren Westrop and Kyle Peterson will lead the Horns.

Overwater sits second in team scoring behind Burdeaux, averaging 15.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

Westrop and Peterson are averaging 13.9 and 13.3 points respectively.

Despite the two losses in Winnipeg, the Pronghorns are still ranked second offensively in Canada West, averaging 90.9 points per game.

In a three-way tie with the Trinity Western Spartans (10-2) and the Winnipeg Wesmen (10-4), the Pronghorn women look to snap their two-game skid after their most successful first semester in program history when the team went 10-2 as the Thunderbirds (4-8) visit.

Zoe Dahl and Kacie Bosch lead the Horns in scoring. Dahl tops the team with 12.9 points per game and Bosch is averaging 12.6. Bosch is also averaging 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

Katie Keith returns from injury and will be a key player in the second half. She leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 boards per game.

The Pronghorns play five of their final six games at home.

The women’s game is at 6 p.m. tonight, followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m.
