Midget 15s tied for first in the south

The Lethbridge Headwater midget AAA 15's Hurricanes having moved back into a tie for top spot in the Alberta Minor Midge Hockey League South Division.

The Hurricanes posted a win and a tie during league action to improve to 19-3-3 and into a tie with the Rockyview Raiders (20-3-1).

In a pair of road games the Canes battled to a 3-3 tie with the Red Deer North Star Chiefs Saturday and then headed to Cochrane Sunday, where they shut out the AC Avalanche 4-0.

On Saturday in Red Deer, Adam Kennedy, J.D. Hall and Derrien Tonin — on the power play — scored for Lethbridge as the Hurricanes went 5for-6 on the penalty kill.

Cole Tisdale stopped 43 of 46 shots in the tie.

Brayden Peters stopped 22 shots for his second shutout of the season in Sunday’s win in Cochran.

Kolby James opened the scoring for the Hurricanes before Tonin added a man advantage marker for a 2-0 lead.

Dawson Leroux scored the lone goal of the second and James added his second of the game to round out the scoring.

The Canes host the Lethbridge Minor Midget AAA Tournament this weekend at the ATB Arena.

The Hurricanes play the CNHA Blazers Friday at 6:15 p.m. at ATB Arena.

The hosts are back in action Saturday, starting at 10:30 a.m. against the Leduc Oil Kings and 6 p.m. against the KC Centennial­s.
