Cougars double the Canes

- Dale Woodard LETHBRIDGE HERALD

The Lethbridge Hurricanes six-game points streak has come to an end. The Hurricanes were doubled up 4-2 by the Prince George Cougars during Western Hockey League action Saturday night in Prince George.

Without forwards and linemates Dylan Cozens and Taylor Ross to injury, the Canes were tagged for two goals in the span of 16 seconds in the third period as Prince George scored a measure of revenge following a 6-2 loss to the Hurricanes Friday night.

The last Hurricanes regulation loss was Jan. 6 in a 61 loss to the Calgary Hitmen, three days before the team’s blockbuster trade with the Swift Current Broncos prior to the WHL trade dead eline.

The loss puts the Canes at 2220-4-0 and five points behind the Central Divison leading Medicine Hat Tigers, who lost 3-2 to the Prince Albert Raiders in overtime Saturday night.

On Saturday night, the Cougars were first on the scoresheet when Jared Bethune scored on the power play 3:27 into the game.

The Hurricanes took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission on goals from Keltie Jeri-Leon and Jake Elmer 37 seconds apart.

However, that’s all the visitors got the rest of the way as Austin Crossley tied things up at 2-2 3:39 into the second period before a pair of quick snipes sealed the win for Prince George when Max Kryski struck for the eventual game-winner 10:38 into the third.

Josh Curtis added the insurance marker 16 seconds later to complete the scoring.

Hurricanes goaltender Logan Flodell made 28 saves in the loss. Cougars netminder Tavin Grant also made 28 stops to earn the win.

Lethbridge completes its fivegame B.C. trip Tuesday in Cranbrook when they take on the Ice.

The Hurricanes are back home Wednesday when the Kelowna Rockets pay a visit to the Enmax Centre at 7 p.m.
