In hopes to help make the cold months more enjoyable for those not involved in winter sports, Castle Mountain has introduced a new interactive way to enjoy the mountains as the snow begins to fall.

On Saturdays this winter, the organization has introduced their Scenic Snow Cat Tours, which will be offered to audiences as a new way to take in the rocky landscapes, the breathtaking views and the fresh mountain air.

“Our goal is to get people who might not ever get the chance to be high up in the alpine, that opportunity,” says Jason Crawford, Sales and Marketing manager for Castle Mountain resort.

“We are adding more ‘nonskiing’ experiences to our programming here at Castle for the past couple years. We've been doing Guided Snow Shoe Tours, and fat biking to name a few and the Scenic Snowcat Tours was an easy extension.”

Visitors are taken high up onto Haig Ridge Run at the end of the day to give participants the opportunity to experience the mountain in a way like never before.

“Being at the end of the day, at this time of year, guests can experience alpen glow and the sun setting over the Continental Divide,” says Crawford of the beauty that the tour has to offer.

Starting at Guest Services at 3:30 p.m., hosts will lead guests to the Huckleberry Chairlift for a scenic ride before loading onto the powder stagecoach, which slowly climbs to the top of the cat skiing terrain. Along the way hosts take the time to explain history and landmarks within the area, before unloading at the top to enjoy some hot cocoa and take in the vistas of Castle Wildland Park and the Continental Divide.

“To end the tour, the Powder Stagecoach will make its way back to the base, where guests will be dropped off at the TBar Pub and Grub and they can use an included voucher for food or beverages supplied during the tour if they wish,” says Crawford.

Castle Mountain has operated since 1965. However, it wasn’t until 2006 that the area saw a winter of change and the official opening of Haig Mountain, where the tours this year are taking place.

The first rounds of the Snowcat tour took place late last year and with positive feedback from participants will be returning on Saturdays from Feb. 3-17. Although limited seating is available for these tours, guest can book ahead of time.
