Canes win one in OT

The Lethbridge Hurricanes have finally snagged that second point when playing more than 60 minutes.

The Hurricanes defeated the Rebels 2-1 in overtime during Western Hockey League action Sunday in Red Deer.

Canes captain Jordy Bellerive scored 2:57 into overtime as Lethbridge earned its first overtime win of the season after going 0-for-6 in the extra, threeon-three frame thus far.

The win improves the Hurricanes to 23-21-6-0

Heading into Sunday’s game, the Hurricanes were coming off 4-3 and 3-2 overtime losses to the Kelowna Rockets and Moose Jaw Warriors, respective­ly.

Bellerive also scored Lethbridge’s regulation goal that forced overtime, scoring midway through the third to knot things at 1-1.

The Rebels took a 1-0 lead 10:16 into the second on a shorthande­d goal from Reese Johnson. Former Hurricane forward Josh Tarzwell drew an assist on the goal.

Hurricanes defenceman Tate Olson drew an assist on each goal. Both teams went 0-for-5 on the power play. Logan Flodell made 22 saves for the Hurricanes in the win.

The Hurricanes return Friday night and host a team bringing in some familar faces when the Swift Current Broncos — featuring goaltender Stuart Skinner and forward Giorgio Estephan and Tanner Nagel — pa a visit to the Enmax Centre at 7 p.m.
