Midget AAs win tourney
The Lethbridge midget AA Hurricane Hounds are two-fortwo at tournaments in January.
The Hurricane Hounds were gold medallists at their own tournament last weekend, beating the Central Alberta Selects 6-4 in the final Sunday at the ATB Centre.
Earlier this month, the Hounds won the Fred Mcbeth AA Midget Tournament in Regina.
Lethbridge started the weekend with an 8-1 win over the Olds Grizzlys.
Spencer Kennedy led the Canes with three goals and Griffen Fraser and Zach Trempner added two each. Darrick Nicol also scored. The Hurricanes skated to a 3-3 tie with the Selects in their second game as Dylan Stevenson, Trempner and Nicol scored.
Lethbridge followed with a 3-2 win over East Kootenay Saturday afternoon.
Kennedy, Fraser and Nicol were the Canes goal scorers.
The Hurricanes started Sunday with a 5-3 win over MLCA that advanced them to the gold medal game.
Trempner scored twice for Lethbridge and Kade Ferguson, Terren Chomyn and Nicol added singles.
That created a rematch in the gold medal game against the Selects Sunday afternoon.
Jason Creighton scored twice for the Hurricanes. Kennedy, Tyson Meier, Kaden Shield and Trempner — with an emptynetter — added one each.
Aaron Dekok and Sean Park split the goaltending duties for the Hurricanes during the weekend.
The Canes host the Taber Golden Suns Friday at 7 p.m. at Henderson Arena.
