Telecommunications tower removed

It was a bit of a landmark in the city’s industrial park. But now it’s gone. The AltaLink telecommunications tower near 36 Street North has been torn down.

Officials say the tower was used for controlling the electric system, and it was part of AltaLink’s office site.

Now that AltaLink has moved its office, officials say there’s no need for the tower so contractors have taken it down.

The radio traffic from the tower has been transferred to an existing fibre optic line, they add.
