U of L opens doors to prospective students
EVENT CONSIDERED AN EXPLORATION
Prospective students of the University of Lethbridge had an opportunity to check out everything the institution has to offer on Saturday.
The U of L hosted its annual Exploration Open House event, opening its doors to a large number of potential future students, their families and the community.
This is the second year for a spring open house event in addition to the traditional fall open house. It is felt holding an event earlier in the year will allow more potential future students the opportunity to explore campus, meet faculty and staff and discover opportunities at the U of L.
“We call this open house an exploration because it really is designed for students who are just beginning to explore their post-secondary options,” said Natasha Buis Deering, Director of Enrolment Services in a recent news release. “For students in Grades 10-11, now is the perfect time to start taking a look at what post-secondary school is all about and what is available at the U of L.
“And of course, for those in Grade 12 who are still deciding their postsecondary future, the Exploration Open House will answer all (their) questions as well.”
The event featured a Faculty and Student Service booth fair, the chance to meet current students, campus tours and a variety of sessions to give high school students an idea of the programming available at the U of L.
“This is designed as a very experiential, hands-on day,” said Buis Deering. “There will be a Let’s Talk Science session, a trio of mini lectures, and tours of some of our most engaging areas on campus such as the Centre for Financial Market Research and Teaching, the Nursing Simulation Lab, and the Faculty of Fine Arts.”
Students also had an opportunity to earn about program offerings, funding opportunities, student services, research centres and institutes, and the facilities available at the University.
