- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s and women’s basketball teams wrapped up their Canada West regular seasons Saturday night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.

Completing a weekend series, the Horns hosted the Alberta Pandas and the Golden Bears as the teams gear up for the post season.

In the women’s game, the Horns were unable to post a 2-0 weekend as the Pandas earned a 6858 decision to finish the regular season with an 11-9 record.

With that record, the Pronghorns will be seeded ninth in the playoffs.

On the men’s side, the Pronghorns battled the Golden Bears right to the buzzer before a Golden Bears jump shot with eight seconds remaining gave Alberta a 97-96 win and a weekend sweep.

The Pronghorns finish the regular season 12-8 to place fourth in the Canada West and earn the right to host in the first round.

The Horns will have a bye next week and wait to see who they will host for the Canada West best-of-three quarterfinal the following week.

At Lethbridge College, the Kodiaks men’s and women’s volleyball teams hosted the Briercrest Clippers in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference action at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.

In the women’s game, the Kodiaks fell 3-0 to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association fifth-ranked Clippers and are now 10-10 and in fourth in the ACAC South Division.

The Kodiaks men rolled to a 3-1 win over the Clippers for a 2-0 weekend following a 3-0 win over Briercrest Friday night. That improves the Kodiaks to 13-7 and into a tie with the Medicine Hat Rattlers (13-9) for third place in the ACAC South.
