Solid meet for Horns track

In their second goround of the season, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns track team enjoyed another multimedal showing.

The Horns headed to Winnipeg for the Bison Classic and returned with 12 medals.

In women’s events, Sandra Latrace won the long jump with a leap of 5.85 metres and took the gold medal in the 60m dash in 7.70 seconds.

She is ranked first in Canada West in long jump and second in U Sports rankings, only one centimetre behind the leader. Latrace is ranked second in Canada West in the 60m.

In the women’s weight throw, the Pronghorns swept the podium.

Freshman Tanessa Morris took top spot with a throw of 15.16 metres, Madeline Szabo won silver (14.78m) and Lara Roth finished third (14.58m). The trio sit second, third and fourth in the Canada West rankings and eighth, 10th and 11th in the U Sports respective­ly.

Lethbridge’s Laura Klinck finished third in the triple jump with 11.21 metres. Through two meets, the first-year jumper is third in Canada West and ninth nationally.

On the men’s side, Ben Ingvaldson won both throwing events and set a new personal best. He opened with a personal best in the weight throw, taking first with a toss of 16.80 metres and now sits first in Canada West and second in U Sports rankings.

In the shot put, Ingvaldson won gold with a throw of 15.78 metres and sits atop the Canada West rankings and second nationally.

Horns rookie Andreas Troschke was second in the weight throw with a throw of 15.65 metres and presently sits second in Canada West and third in U Sports.

Spencer Unrau was fourth and is in the same position in the Canada West and eighth nationally.

Aaron Hernandez posted another win in the triple jump to stay atop both the Canada West and U Sports rankings, while Phillip Rockerbie won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.44 seconds and sits second in Canada West and seventh nationally.

Rounding out the men’s results, rookie Noel Vanderzee finished second in the men’s high jump and is second in Canada West rankings and third in the U Sports rankings.

The Horns are back on the road this weekend for their final tuneup before the Canada West Championsh­ips as they head to Edmonton for the Golden Panda Open.

The Canada West Championsh­ips, hosted by the University of Manitoba, are Feb. 23-24.
