A successful weekend in track and field has translated into Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week honours for the University of Lethbridge track team.

Ben Ingvaldson took the men’s award for the week ending Feb. 4 while the women’s honour went to Sandra Latrace.

Continuing with his solid early season, third-year thrower Ingvaldson won both of the events he competed in and set a new personal best along the way in Winnipeg this past weekend at the Bison Classic.

Ingvaldson opened with a personal best in the weight throw, taking first with a toss of 16.80 metres. He’s in first in Canada West and second in U Sports rankings.

In the shot put, Ingvaldson took home the gold medal with a throw of 15.78 metres to lead the Canada West rankings and is second nationally.

Meanwile, following a triumphant return to the indoor season two weeks ago, Latrace, a second-year jumper/sprinter, continued her strong start to the 2018 season, winning both her events at the Bison Classic.

Latrace won the long jump with a leap of 5.85 metres and took the gold medal in the 60metre dash with a time of 7.70 seconds. In the long jump, Latrace is ranked first in Canada West and is second in U Sports rankings, only one centimetre behind the leader, and is ranked second in Canada West in the 60 metres.

Ingvaldson and Latrace and the rest of their teammates will have one more tuneup competition this weekend before the Canada West Championships. The Pronghorns will head to Edmonton to compete in the Golden Panda Open. The Canada West Championships will be hosted in Winnipeg, Feb. 23 and 24.
