Foremost pulls upset in 1A/2A zone tourney

Play continued in the 1A/2A Boys and Girls Southern Alberta zone high school basketball tournament­s Tuesday at Val Matteotti gymnasium, with Foremost pulling off the biggest upset in the early going.

Games continue today.

1A BOYS (7) Foremost 70, (2) Lundbreck Livingston­e 66

Reece Hollingswo­rth and Ryan Unrau scored 32 and 30 points respective­ly, powering Foremost to the upset of second-seeded Lundbreck.

Elisha Lowry led Livingston­e with 23 points and Joseph Lowry finished with 15.

(3) Nanton J.T. Foster 78, (6) Noble Central 64

John Solatorio and Brandon Mosher scored 26 and 22 points respective­ly as J.T. Foster pulled away in the second half. Ben Wallace added 14 for the winners.

Bryce Segboer scored 15 to lead Noble Central, Joe Wolff added 14 and Tynan Potterton finshed with 11 points in the loss.

1A GIRLS (5) Pincher Creek St. Michael’s 59, (4) Bow Island Senator Gershaw 52

Grace Zoratti scored 23 points on the strength of seven threepoint­ers for the winners, while Olivia Citrigno added 16 points and Mya Citrigno scored 12.

Megan Jonker led Gershaw with 17 points, Jessica Andreas had 12 and Christal Lockhart netted 10.

(1) Foremost 63, (8) Coalhurst 21

Rayna Yancie scored 27 points as top-seeded Foremost cruised to victory. Morgan Brower finished with 16 points for the winners.

SarahAnn Walker led Coalhurst with nine points.

2A BOYS (3) Kainai 99, (6) Crowsnest Consolidat­ed 55

Jet Day Chief scorched Crowsnet for 35 points, while Kogen Wells added 20 points, and both Tyreece Weasel Head and Tazzmaine Good Dagger scored 16.

Connor Gunn paced Crownest Consolidat­ed with 32 points.

(2) Immanuel Christian 106, (7) Vulcan County Central 42

Ryan Degner scored 22 points for the second-seeded Eagles. Landon Veluw and Levi Vroom both scored 16 points in the victory and Justin Withage had 13.

Bailey McCreadie led County Central with 17 points.

2A GIRLS (8) Fort Macleod F.P. Walshe 57, (9) Vulcan County Central 26

Sheridan George-Orr scored 21 points to lead F.P. Walshe, and Tess Luther scored 10.

Jenna Griffin was the high-scorer for County Central with six points.
