Canes blanked in Brandon, end trip tonight in Moose Jaw

The Lethbridge Hurricanes were blanked in Brandon Tuesday night.

Playing their third of a four-game road swing, the Canes were shut out 6-0 by the Wheat Kings in Western Hockey League action.

The Wheat Kings opened up a 30 lead after the first period and added two more in the second and one in the third to post the win that drops the Hurricanes to 32-27-6-0 on the season.

Brandon’s power play went 3-for6 and got the scoring started as Stelio Mattheos scored 6:45 into the game.

The Wheat Kings took a 3-0 lead into the first intermissi­on thanks to a pair of goals in the final 5:46 of the first from Luka Burzan and Ty Lewis.

Mattheos and Lewis added their second goals of the game in the second period and Chase Hartje rounded out the scoring in the third and potted the Wheaties third man advantage marker with 3:18 to go.

Logan Flodell got the start in goal for the Hurricanes and stopped six of nine shots in the first period before Reece Klassen came on in the second, making 21 saves on 24 shots.

The Hurricanes complete their road trip tonight when they stop in Moose Jaw to face the Warriors.

The last time the two teams met, the Canes topped the Warriors 4-3 at the Enmax Centre.

Lethbridge returns home Friday night when they host the Red Deer Rebels at 7 p.m. at the Enmax Centre.
