A 19-year-old man who was charged with murder late last year, then released from custody in February, will be back in court later this month.

Simon Danny Scout made a brief appearance Wednesday in Lethbridge provincial court, but his matter was simply adjourned to March 28. In the meantime, a pre-trial conference is scheduled for Friday, during which defence and the Crown will meet to discuss the case and determine if it can be resolved or if a trial will be necessary.

Scout and 24-year-old Rylan James Twigg are charged with second-degree murder in connection to Kenrick Leonard First Rider's death Nov. 27 in his northside home.

At 7:20 a.m. that day Lethbridge EMS were called to a home in the 1200 block of 9 Avenue North, where they found First Rider’s body. Police determined First Rider had been involved in a verbal dispute with two men at the home. The dispute escalated to a physical altercation and First Rider was killed.

Twigg was arrested the same day when he went to the police station in connection with First Rider’s death. Scout was arrested later in the day after a warrant was issued and police received some tips from the public.

Police reported that Twigg is the son of the victim’s girlfriend, and that First Rider and both accused were living together in the same house. Police had been called to the home for disturbances in the past. Twigg is scheduled to return to court March 21. Follow @DelonHerald on Twitter
