• Leisure in Dementia Care for Family and Caregivers, an interactive presentation by an Alberta Health Services Recreation Therapist, will take place March 8 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at Coaldale Public Library, 2014 18 St., Coaldale. The event will cover: what is dementia?; the art of dementia-friendly communication; the psychological needs of people with dementia; what makes an activity meaningful?; community resources and support; and ways to cope with caregiver stress and grief. • Lethbridge Public Library will celebrate International Women’s Day March 8 with a special evening film screening and speakers starting at 7 p.m. at the Main Branch Theatre Gallery. There will be a screening of the film “The Breadwinner” as well as an opportunity for women in the community to speak about their lives and experiences. Featured speakers will include: Belinda Crowson (speaking on women in Lethbridge’s history), Rebekah Eckert (women and faith), Kelti Baird (brew master and owner of Theoretically Brewing Company), as well as several young women from Immigrant Services and the university’s Indigenous Studies program.
• University of Lethbridge will present the ARRTI Speaker Series, featuring Dr. Carla Coffin, March 8, 3 to 4:30 p.m., C756 at University Hall. Dr. Coffin, an associate professor of medicine at the University of Calgary, will talk about Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) persistence. Her work with the Canadian HBV Network is aimed at understanding HBV persistence and guiding clinical management of HBVinfected patients.
• Al-Anon, a group for those facing problems caused by someone else’s drinking, meets Thursdays at 1 p.m. at the Family Centre, Suite 225, 200 4 Ave. S. (Lethbridge Centre). Details: Pat, 403359-2169 or Marlene, 403-388-7319.
• “Easy Does It” Al-Anon for adult children of alcoholics, a support group for people who want to learn healthier coping skills in their relationships, meets Thursdays, 7 p.m., Church of the Good Shepherd, 2406 11 Ave. S., front door. Details: Judy, 403-329-0661.
• Blankets for Canada Lethbridge meets Thursdays from 10 a.m.-noon at the west entrance of Southminster United Church (11 Street and 4 Avenue). We are in need of more volunteers. Donations of yarn or financial donations are greatly appreciated, also eight- or nine-inch squares as well as strips 70 inches long, knitted or crocheted. • Are you looking for a free place to get your kids out of the house doing productive things on a Thursday evening? Me and My Family promotes learning through play in a space designed for caregivers and their children to explore and grow. • University of Lethbridge will present an International Women’s Day event March 9, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at PB210, Dr. Foster James Penny Building, 324 5 St. S. Sponsored by the Department of Women and Gender Studies, this event is an interactive celebration to press forward and achieve gender parity. The #PressforProgress hashtag allows anyone interested to engage and be counted. The event includes a launch of Dr. Glenda Bonifacio’s new book titled “Global Currents in Gender and Feminism.”
• University of Lethbridge will present Southern Alberta Employment Opportunities and Outlook March 9,3 p.m., at B650, University Hall. Agricultural Studies and the Department of Economics at the U of L are sponsoring this public presentation featuring Jeremy Carter, field department manager at McCain Foods. Carter will talk about opportunities for U of L graduates in rural and agricultural labour markets.
• ARCHES (formerly Lethbridge HIV Connection) is holding its annual Gerbera Daisy Spring for Life fundraising campaign. Purchase 5 brightly coloured ✦ mini Gerbera Daisies for $6 a bouquet. They can be pre-ordered any time before March 9 by calling the office at 403-795-1535 between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday to Thursday or emailing student@lethbridgearches.com. The daisies will be available for delivery (on orders of 10 or more) March 15-16 or you can pick them up at ARCHES at 1206 6 Ave. S. between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 15-16. All proceeds support the programs at ARCHES which provide services to those living with/or affected by HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis C in Southwestern Alberta.
• World Day of Prayer service will take place March 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Coaldale United Church. The event was postponed from March 2 because of inclement weather.
• The Condo Owners Forum Society of Alberta, Alberta’s only registered nonprofit society for condo owners, will hold a free seminar entitled “What Every Condo Owner Needs to Know” March

• Galt Museum’s Saturdays at 1:00 hands-on history program for adults to attend with children continues March 10 from 1-2 p.m., featuring “Sash Weaving.” Join members of the Métis Local 2003 and learn about the Métis sash and learn how to finger weave.
