Johnny Reid staging a ‘Revival’
Canadian superstar brings latest tour to the Enmax Centre
Canadian music superstar Johnny Reid is staging a “Revival” that hits the Enmax Centre on March 19. The renowned Scottish-born, Ontario-raised entertainer, who may well be the true definition of a crossover artist, has endeared himself to audiences since first stepping into the spotlight way back in 2008.
Over the ensuing years, he has recorded chart-topping, platinum-selling albums, earned numerous accolades and filled venues from coast to coast.
His “Revival” tour, named after his latest album, kicked off Feb. 26 in Sidney, B.C. and eventually ends on the East Coast at the Mile One Centre April 24 in St. John’s NL.
His tour of 44 dates includes a handful of two-night stands in cities including Edmonton, Regina and Toronto.
Joining Reid on this tour is his band The Soul Providers, as well as Canadian rock act Glass Tiger.
Over the years, Reid has sold an astonishing 1.5 million albums in a career that has earned him six Juno awards and 26 Canadian Country Music Association awards.
In a couple of weeks, Reid could be bringing home more hardware with “Revival” up for two Junos March 25 in Vancouver, a show that will be broadcast on CBC.
In his last performance here two years ago, Reid did what he does best — renewed friendships and created memories with his legions of local fans, combining fastpaced rock tunes and intimate ballads in a mesmerizing show.
“Lethbridge is such a wonderful place to play,” he told the audience that night, an evening in which a 97-year-old celebrated her birthday with the help of Reid’s music.
Now based in Nashville, Reid emigrated to Canada in 1988 with his family and is well known for his pride in being Canadian which he spoke eloquently about in his last show here.
Reid released his first album “Born To Roll” in 2006 but it was 2008’s “Kicking Stones” which truly brought him to the attention of Canadian music fans. That album has since earned double platinum status in Canada.
Songs like “Dance With Me” and “A Woman Like You” are synonymous with Reid’s distinctive voice and have propelled him to the stratosphere of Canadian music.
Reid fans can look forward to a special treat when Glass Tiger hits the stage.
Led by Reid’s fellow Scotsman Alan Frew, Glass Tiger first made a splash in 1986 with the Can-con rock radio staple “Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone)” followed by such classics as “I’m Still Searching” and “Diamond Sun.”
After a 10-year hiatus between 1993 and 2003, Glass Tiger has continued to perform in Canada and abroad. The band, formed in 1983, still features four original members including Sam Reid, Al Connelly and Wayne Parker.
Opening the show will be Canadian country singer/songwriter Jessica Mitchell.
