Stirling girls headed to the 1A gold medal game

The second-ranked Stirling Lakers girls 1A basketball team earned a berth in the gold medal game as Day 4 of the 1A/2A Boys and Girls Southern Alberta zone high school basketball tournament took place at the Lethbridge College Val Matteotti gymnasium.

The Lakers scored a close win over third-seeded Milk River Erle Rivers to advance to the gold medal game Saturday at 2 p.m.

Stirling will play the winner of the game between topseeded Foremost and fifthplace Pincher Creek St. Michael’s. The teams were playing in the 8:30 p.m. semifinal at press time.

Savannah McKee led Stirling with 23 points, while Kat Montague posted 14 and Gracie Nelson scored 13.

Mackenzie Murphy paced Erle Rivers with 28 points.

Also hitting double digits was Leah Oswald with 11.

2A girls (4) Kate Andrews 69, (5) Matthew Halton 49

Fourth-ranked Kate Andrews advanced as Victoria Reed led the way with 19 points.

Raegan Abrey added 16 points for Kate Andrews and Summer Nordin scored 10.

For Matthew Halton, Madilyn Whitehead was the top scorer with 15 points and Lucy Gerrand scored 13.

(1) Immanuel Christian 73 vs (8) F.P. Walshe 25

Immanuel Christian had a 29-point second quarter and a 23-point third quarter en route to earning a spot in the 2A girls semifinal against Kate Andrews today at 6:45 p.m.

Britney Vande Munt led Immanuel Christian with 34 points and Jenna Aleman added 11.

Sheridan George-Orr scored 10 points for F.P. Walshe.

2A boys (1) Willow Creek 126, (8) Matthew Halton 31

Top-seeded Willow Creek got a 29-point game from Nic Harder, while Aarron Wutke had 22 to advance to the 2A semifinals tonight at 8:30 p.m. against the winner of fourthseed­ed Vauxhall and fifthranke­d Kate Andrews, who were playing in the late draw Thursday night.

Jean Pierre Otero Rodriguez added 19 points for Willow Creek, Ross VanRootsel­aar had 16, Logan Currie hit for 12 and Jackson Wright contribute­d 10.

Lloyd Lybbert led Matthew Halton with 11 points.
