Events set for Brain Awareness Week

-

The University of Lethbridge-based Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience will host a couple of events to mark Brain Awareness Week this week.

Brain Awareness Week will showcase the advanced research being conducted in neuroscience in southern Alberta and give members of the public the chance to see examples of this research for themselves.

On Tuesday, Dr. Stephen Lomber, a professor of physiology, pharmacology and psychology at the University of Western Ontario and Canadian Research Chair in Brain Plasticity and Development, will give a free public lecture titled The Plastic Brain: How the brain is able to adapt to blindness, amputation, deafness, and stroke. The talk begins at 7 p.m. at the Lethbridge Senior Citizen’s Organization located at 500 11 St. S.

On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the CCBN Open House and Brain Awareness Fair will give the public a chance to learn about the leading research work being conducted within its walls. Activities for children will be available and parking is free in Lot M.

“The Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience is the only research facility of its kind in Canada,” says Dr. Artur Luczak, a neuroscience researcher and professor and event organizer.

“We want the public to step inside and learn about the incredible activities that are taking place in their community. Everyone is welcome and all ages are encouraged to participate.”
