• University of Lethbridge will present the Prentice Institute Brown Bag Lecture Series — “Sexual Expression in Residentia­l Care,” March 16 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at L1102, Library. Dr. Julia Brassolott­o, an assistant professor in Public Health at the U of L, holds an Alberta Innovates New Investigat­or Research Chair in Healthy Futures and Well-being in Rural Settings. Her research looks at care for older adults, specifical­ly those living in continuing care.

• University of Lethbridge will present a talk titled Men are Naturally Better Leaders? Canadians and Political Sexism,” March 16, 2 to 4 p.m. at AH176, Anderson Hall. Melanee Thomas (BA ’03), assistant professor of political science at the University of Calgary, will talk about her research into the effects of gender, stereotype threat, and psychologi­cal orientatio­ns on politics and a project that examines the role electoral districts play in voter turnout, party competitio­n and representa­tional diversity.

• University of Lethbridge will present the CCBN Open House and Brain Awareness Fair March 17 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Canadian Centre for Behavioura­l Neuroscien­ce. This free event allows people of all ages to come and explore the CCBN and learn about the world-class research being conducted. Children’s activities are provided and parking is free in Lot M.

• Southern Alberta Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star will hold their annual spring tea March 17, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyteri­an Church, 1818 5 Ave. S. Admission $5. Tickets available at the door. Tea and coffee, sandwiches, squares, home baking, door prizes.

• Galt Museum’s Saturdays at 1:00 hands-on history program for adults to attend with children continues March 17 from 1-2 p.m., featuring “Button Shamrock.” Come and learn about the history of St. Patrick’s Day while making a decorative shamrock out of buttons. Come dressed in your best green! Admission fees apply (free to annual pass holders).

• Royal Canadian Legion #4 General Stewart Branch will hold a St. Patrick’s Day Dance March 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Legion’s Memorial Hall, 324 Mayor Magrath Drive S., featuring the Dusty Road Band. Door prizes, dance prizes, 50/50 draw. Special price food menu available until 9 p.m.; full bar service in hall until midnight. Advance tickets $17 for Legion members, $20 for nonmembers. • Kids Club and MAKEbreak Crafting Classes take place on weekends at Michael’s Craft Store at Park Place, designed for kids of all ages. • Southern Alberta Model Railroad Club will host its annual Spring Open House March 17-18 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. each day at the club facility in Gyro Park, 15 Street and 10 “A” Avenue South. Both the HO-gauge and the N-gauge layout will be operating. Everyone welcome, free admission (although donations are gratefully accepted).

• West Wind Gymnastics Club offers drop-in fun on Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. It’s a great opportunit­y to practise your gymnastic skills in a friendly, supervised environmen­t. Age 5 and under $6 and must be accompanie­d by an adult; 6 and older $12.

• Are you a male caregiver looking for something to do with your children on a Saturday morning? Me and My Dad uses fun to create a healthy environmen­t where dads come together with their children. Relationsh­ips are not only built stronger between father and child but also lifelong friendship­s between Fathers and their children. • 55-Plus at Via Church (formerly River of Life) welcomes all to their monthly potluck suppers on the third Saturday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at 2820 18 Ave. N. • Galt Museum’s Café Galt lecture program for adults and seniors continues March 18 from 2-3 p.m., featuring “Gliding in Southern Alberta: 1930s to Present Day.” Listen to Geoff Minors from the Lethbridge Soaring Club speak on the history of gliding in our area. • Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School Open House will be held March 20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Chinook High School. The new middle school is preparing for its fall opening. The open house will feature members of the Board of Trustees and Fairbairn staff. Topics to be covered will include boundaries for the new school, constructi­on updates, features included in the new building and details surroundin­g registrati­on dates and plans for transition­ing students in the fall.

• The Lethbridge Associatio­n of the Blind (LAB) provides numerous activities for the blind and visually impaired in the Lethbridge area. Some of these include dinners with entertainm­ent, attending musicals and tours of local museums. The associatio­n also runs a bowling league which takes place weekly at the Holiday Bowl. • The Chinook Society for Recovering Addicts, a not-for-profit registered society with charitable status, makes its renovated facility at 408 13 St. N. available as a meeting room space to 12step groups as well as other groups or organizati­ons. Each of the three available rooms includes tables, chairs, commercial coffee maker and sink. There is a centrally located locker room for group supplies as well as central men’s and women’s washrooms. The facility has central HVAC, is smoke free and wheelchair accessible.
