Inspire your own discoveries at the library
This past week I had the pleasure of attending the Greatness in Leadership management development day. I know for myself, I left feeling inspired, especially by Robert Ballard, who spoke to a message of having guiding principles to lead us in the exploration of our lives, for “the greatest discoveries all start with the question, ‘Why?’”
Here are some titles from this year’s speakers, that are available at the Lethbridge Public Library, that can inspire your own discoveries and quest for lifelong learning.
• “Titanic: The Last Great Images” by Robert Ballard. Many years after Ballard found the famous ship, he revisits the wreck in stories and photographs.
• “The Eternal Darkness” by Robert Ballard. This book is a combination of Ballard’s personal account of his life as a Navy officer and oceanographer, with a history of deep ocean science.
• “The Discovery of the Titanic” by Robert Ballard. This is Ballard’s first-hand account of his discovery of the site of the Titanic, and all the amazing undersea technology it took to find.
• “Going for Gold” by Catriona Le May Doan. A fascinating look at one of Canada’s greatest Olympic athletes, from growing up in Saskatoon to winning a gold medal at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, it is hard not to feel inspired.
• “Focus on the 90%” by Darci Lang. This book examines how we can either “focus on the negative 10 per cent in our lives — those things and people that bother us and drag us down — or we can choose to focus on the 90 per cent in our lives that is positive and beneficial.”
• “Life Would Be Easy If It Weren’t for Other People” by Connie Podesta. In this book Podesta shows us how to develop healthy communication patterns with difficult people.
This is just a small selection of great titles offered at the Lethbridge Public Library. For even more choices, talk to our library staff to see what they are reading.
