Flooding concerns continue
STATE OF EMERGENCY REMAINS FOR M.D. OF TABER
A local state of emergency remains in effect in the Municipal District of Taber as the municipality continues to deal with overland flooding.
A state of emergency was declared last Friday after warm spring temperatures and saturated soil conditions resulted in a high level of snow melt and field runoff entering municipal and irrigation infrastructure.
According to an update from Monday night, crews and contractors have been dispatched to clear snow and ice from drainage outlets and culverts.
The M.D. is requesting landowners not to increase water flows through unnecessary pumping or excavation. Additional water pumped onto roadways could threaten neighbouring land and residential properties as well as threaten irrigation and municipal infrastructure.
Roads impacted by flooding include:
Range Road 15-3 between Township Road 10-0 and 9-2;
Township Road 9-2 between Range Road 19-0 and 18-2;
Range Road 18-3 from Highway 3 to Township Road 10-0; and Range Road 17-2 north of Township Road 10-0.
More flooding could be expected as the weather continues to be warm, and crews are working on road maintenance.
Anyone in the area affected by flooding is asked to contact the M.D. of Taber administration office at 403223-3541.
Flooding is also being reported in Lethbridge County, but it is not expected to increase at this time. The County is asking landowners not to take measures such as excavating or pumping, as this could cause issues for other landowners.
County residents experiencing flooding are asked to call 403-3285525.
