Local skaters earn medals
The Lethbridge Skating Club captured six medals, including five gold and one bronze, at the Alberta, N.W.T.-Nunavut StarSkate Championships held last weekend in Spruce Grove.
Moriah Van’t Land won gold in Special Olympics Level 1 while Brooklyn Watmough won gold in Star 10 and bronze in Ladies Silver Interpretive.
Shayleen Mann struck gold in Star 4 (U13 Flight H) while also placing 12th in Bronze Interpretive.
Shanelle Mann claimed gold in Star 4 (U10 Flight D) and was 15th in Bronze Interpretive (U13) while Bianca Christakos skated to gold in Bronze Adult Freeskate.

Emily Watson, seventh, Star 4 Girls (U13 - Flt C); Gabrielle Hoff, 12th, Bronze Ladies Interpretive (13O); Alyssa Piekema, 18th, Star 5 Ladies (U13); Addison Piekema, 28th, Star 5 Ladies (U13); Kyra Piekema, 20th, Star 6 Ladies; Acacia Smith, 2st, Star 6 Ladies, 22nd Bronze Interpretive; Jenna Vanderburgh 28th, Star 6 Ladies, 13th Silver Ladies Interpretive; Elizabeth Davis, 32nd Star 6 Ladies; and Mackenzie Hurn, 45th Star 6 Ladies, 19th Bronze Ladies Interpretive (U13).
The Lethbridge Skating Club is preparing to host the 24th annual Chinook Open Competition April 6-8, 2018 at the ATB Crossing Complex. Over 700 skaters and their families from Alberta, and some coming from B.C. as well, will be participating.
