The Galt Museum and Archives held its annual “Eggstravaganza” in the city on Saturday, and was expected to have over 1,000 visitors throughout the course of the day.

Families were given a chance to take a photo with the Easter Bunny, do some egg decorating, tour the museum’s collection on an Easter egg hunt and generally have some fun enjoying all on offer at the Galt.

Katie Brummund was doing some Easter-themed crafts with her daughters Olivia and Scarlett, both wearing bunny-ear hair bands.

“We are having such a fun time,” said Brummund. “There are so many activities to do.”

Such praise was music to Chris Roedler’s ears. Roedler organized this year’s “Eggstravaganza” on behalf of the Galt Museum.

“We usually have an excellent response from the community,” he said. “Families love to come here, and there are families I run into at this event that have been coming for each of the 20 years we have been doing this. I see smiles on the kids’ faces. I see the smiles on the parents’ faces. This event allows them to be like kids again.”

None of it would be possible without the volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to making the event a success, he added.

“Everybody here besides me are volunteers. I couldn’t do this without them, and we have about 20 volunteers helping out just today.”

Linda Kaufman volunteered her time at the Easter egg decorating table. The Galt used a new technique this year which utilized shaving cream and food colouring instead of boiling the eggs in dye to give them that bright Easter hue.

“It’s wonderful,” Kaufman said. “Just wonderful. I get so excited every time this time of the year comes around. The kids have responded well to the egg-decorating today, and we have put a lot of stuff out on the table they can put onto the eggs like gold foil.”

Steven Harris of the Lethbridge district office for Farm Credit Canada, which was a major sponsor for “Eggstravaganza” this year, said the time, money and effort put into the event was well worth it.

“Today it has been absolutely fantastic to see the energy and excitement from the kids,” he said.
