UNITED WAY OF LETHBRIDGE & SOUTHWESTE­RN ALBERTA – ALLOCATION­S COMMITTEE

United Way’s Allocation­s Committee is a group of community volunteers who help decide where to direct United Way funding each year. Volunteers are responsibl­e for reading and reviewing the applicatio­ns for funding received from local charities seeking funds to operate programs for people and families. Following a group orientatio­n session in early April, each volunteer will review 6-8 applicatio­ns over the course of 3-4 weeks. Volunteers then come together in small groups to discuss and share their thoughts. Volunteers can expect to invest 20-30 hours of time over the course of 6-8 weeks. Orientatio­n and group meetings will be held at the United Way office. Reading can be done from home or remotely. LETHBRIDGE FAMILY SERVICES – GOLF VOLUNTEER INFORMATIO­N NIGHT FOR MACKENZIE TOUR

The Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada is being held in Lethbridge from June 18 to 24 and Lethbridge Family Services is looking for

around 250 volunteers to help make it a success. There will be a Volunteer Informatio­n and Registrati­on Night, Wednesday, April 11 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Enmax Centre. They will be giving descriptio­ns of the various volunteer positions; Volunteer Services, Player Services, Guest Experience/Hospitalit­y, Marshalls, Scoring, Transporta­tion and Operations. HELEN SCHULER NATURE CENTRE – INVASIVE WEED PULL VOLUNTEERS

The Helen Schuler Nature Centre is looking for volunteers to help

with Invasive Weed Pulls. Public drop-in clean-ups are scheduled for the third Thursday in May, June, July and August at various locations in the river valley. Volunteers will identify, locate and remove invasive plant species found in the river valley. The goal of the program is to improve the health of the local ecosystem by detecting and removing prohibited noxious weeds before they establish in Lethbridge. Invasive Weed Pulls are a great opportunit­y to spend time outside while making a difference in our community. EXTENDICAR­E – DEMENTIA HOUSEHOLD VISITORS

Extendicar­e is looking for dementia household visitors to help with the following: folding napkins/placemats, reading/reminiscin­g program, baby/mom visits, music programs (both households have organs), Pamper Me (hand lotion or nail care — does not involve trimming nails), hymn sings, etc. Volunteers would be directed by the Dietary Aide in the dining room or the Dietary Supervisor. The Recreation Department has a variety of supplies including CD/ DVD players, CDs/DVDs, reading material, song books, nail polish, hand lotion and more. LETHBRIDGE PUBLIC LIBRARY – READ ON ADULT LEARNING & ESL PROGRAM TUTORS

The Lethbridge Public Library Read On Program works with adults who, for whatever reason, do not have the level of English they now require. Tutors help them improve their reading, writing, math,

listening and speaking skills. After volunteers complete an all-day training session, they are paired with a student and meet for one hour per week at a day and time suitable for both. You can meet in any public space and the library provides the resources, curriculum and learning goals and as long as volunteers are actively tutoring, they receive a compliment­ary library membership. WELLNESS THROUGH LIVING SOCIETY – GRANT WRITER

It is grant writing time and the Wellness Through Living Society is

looking for a volunteer grant writer. You have the option of writing in your home or bringing your laptop and writing in the office. It is not wheelchair accessible at this time. You can get to their location by transit. They would like to have someone with a wealth of experience so they can work on their own. WATERTON LAKES COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIO­N – SPECIAL EVENT ASSISTANT VOLUNTEER

The Waterton Wildflower Festival is an annual event that takes place June 14 to 19 celebratin­g nature and an abundance of

wildflower­s in Waterton Lakes National Park. Duties include: distributi­on of informatio­n material, assisting with set up/taking down of signage, chairs and tables, assisting at reception and registrati­on desk, greeting and assisting the public, patron sign-in, waivers ticket and merchandis­e sales, help with carpooling, monitor coffee table, clean-up, oversee kids activities and more.
