RNs RN Registered Nurses Right Now

-

Alberta Registered Nurses are everywhere! Just ask Dr. Shannon Spenceley RN, Assistant Dean with the University of Lethbridge, an Alberta girl through and through; born, raised, educated and now leading the way for the next generation of nursing in Alberta.

“Registered nursing is the largest health care work force in the province with 38,000 strong. We’re everywhere! In community settings, teaching, community health units, local businesses and hospitals of course,” said Spenceley.

“Ask any resident how an RN has intersected with their own lives and everyone has a story.”

While many may associate RNs with front line care, Spenceley explains that nurses are involved in so much more, including research.

“A lot of research is going on in Southern Alberta that is being lead and participated in by RNs. Nurses are leading research in post–surgery care for cancer patients, nursing education and increasing the access of health care to the most vulnerable populations. There is innovative research in long term care, work place issues, moral distress and dementia, all being led by nurses in Southern Alberta.”

In other words, the research work being done by nurses in the Lethbridge area, is changing and saving lives.

consumers of healthcare, those experiencing issues and establish ‘what are the needs in the local community?’ And that is typical of any RN.”

Continuing and advanced nursing education based on current research and best practices is a crucial part of a nurse’s professional responsibility to provide the highest standards of patient care.

Nursing Week is celebrated around the world May 6th to 12th. Everyone is invited to join in the local celebrations at the Lethbridge Nursing Gala on May 11th.

“We want the broader community to attend. It’s a beautiful evening of entertainment with good wine, good food and good laughs. The one thing about RNs is that we love to connect with members of the larger community and we hope everyone will support scholarships for Registered Nurses.”

Supporting the Alberta Registered Nurses Educational Trust, the Lethbridge Nursing Gala also features an incredible silent auction and other fun surprises.

“The entire proceeds are used to support RNs in studying at the University of Lethbridge, in research work, in graduate work, all directly related to Southern Alberta. All the money raised stays in our community.”

“Registered Nurses do what they do for the love of the profession and for love of their community. We hope people will attend the Lethbridge Nursing Gala for the same reasons.”
