A big Lego park, as well as photo opportunities with “Star Wars” characters and an Ecto-1 from “Ghostbusters” will all be in one spot in Lethbridge next month. Both kids and adults are welcome. The seventh annual Children’s Festival is coming to Exhibition Park’s North, South and Main Pavilions on May 4 and May 5, it was announced Thursday morning during a media and sponsor breakfast event.

During the festival, all 21 entertainment and interactive activities will be free of charge with admission.

“It’s a huge two days of activity,” said Doug Kryzanowski, Exhibition Park’s marketing manager. He says Children’s Festival, after merging with Family Fest after it ended two years ago, has been even more successful as about 10,000-plus people are likely to attend.

“We’re anticipating it to be busy. There’s a lot of new events. We’re really happy the lineup is at it is.”

Other elements confirmed are a dog activity show, a petting zoo, an exterior reverse bungee, and a festival trade show area with about 60 exhibitors for parents or grandparents to view and shop.

“(It’s) always challenging to find new and exciting things,” said Jackie French, Exhibition Park’s event and entertainment supervisor.

"We wanted to go with the ‘Star Wars’ theme a bit this year because it is May the 4th. It falls on ‘Star Wars’ weekend, so we thought ‘why not bring in some Star Wars activity and get a wider range of audience to participate?’ We’re really excited to gave some of the Star Wars characters come. There’s an opportunity to take photo ops and give a donation to BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse). That’s kind of exciting; we get to help a children’s group as well.”

The seventh annual Children’s Festival will run from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 4, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday May 5.

All tickets will be sold at the gate. Admission is $5, with under age 3 free, and free parking.
