The Swift Current Broncos won three out of four games against the Lethbridge Hurricanes during the 201718 WHL regular season.

Oct. 10, 2017 in Swift Current 6-2 Broncos

The Broncos were handed nine power-play opportunit­ies and converted on two of them.

Tyler Steenberge­n scored his 14th goal of the season before then Hurricanes captain Giorgio Estephan netted his third of the season for a 11 tie after 20 minutes.

Calen Addison scored his second of the season at the 5:46 mark of the second, then the Broncos tallied shorthande­d as Kaden Elder scored with 5:58 left in the second for a 2-2 tie after 40 minutes.

Swift Current grabbed a 3-2 lead when Riley Stotts scored a powerplay goal, then doubled their lead 1:50 later when Aleksi Heponiemi scored with the teams skating fouron-four. Max Patterson scored with 7:25 to go before Steenberge­n rounded out the scoring with his second of the night into an empty net with 18 seconds remaining. Then-Hurricanes goaltender Stuart Skinner made 28 saves in the loss.

Oct. 20, 2017 in Lethbridge 6-4 Broncos

Tyler Steenberge­n scored four goals and added an assist, with then-Hurricanes assistant captain Jordy Bellerive responding with a pair of goals Lethbridge.

Aleksi Heponiemi also put up a goal and three assists and Glenn Gawdin had four helpers for the Broncos.

Sahvan Khaira and Bellerive swapped goals late in the first before Steenberge­n struck with 43 seconds left in the opening period for a 2-1 Swift Current lead.

The Broncos upped their lead to 4-1 in the opening 6:56 of the second on goals from Heponiemi and Steenberge­n, but Canes rookie Dylan Cozens cut that lead in half on the man advantage with 2:56 left in the second to make it 4-2.

Steenberge­n completed his hat trick bid before the second was over and added his 20th of the season late in the third. Zane Franklin on the power play and Bellerive's second with 49 seconds to go rounded out the scoring.

Nov. 11, 2017 in Swift Current 6-0 Broncos

The loss extended Lethbridge’s losing streak to six games, while the Broncos’ top trio of Tyler Steenberge­n, Aleksi Heponiemi and Glenn Gawdin combined for 11 points.

The Broncos opened a 3-0 lead after the first as Heponiemi scored 12 seconds in and Steenberge­n and Gawdin added power play goals. Gawdin scored the lone goal of the second period. Kaden Elder scored in the third and Steenberge­n added his second of the game 3:30 in to round out the scoring.

Hurricanes goaltender Reece Klassen made 18 saves as the Hurricanes outshot the Broncos 3624. Logan Flodell earned the shutout for Swift Current.

Feb. 2 in Lethbridge 5-2 Hurricanes

In the first game since the Jan. 9 trade between the teams, Igor Merzhko opened the scoring 5:40 into the game before the Hurricanes got power-play goals from Jordy Bellerive, Tate Olson and Keltie JeriLeon for a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes.

The Broncos cut into the lead in the third as Georgio Estephan scored, before Glenn Gawdin added another. Ty Prefontain­e added a empty-netter for the Canes with two minutes to go

Former Broncos goaltender Logan Flodell earned first-star honours with a 40-save effort.
