Trial date set for aggravated assault suspects
One man has already been sentenced, another is set for a preliminary hearing, and two men are headed for trial, all in relation to a stabbing in Lethbridge less than three months ago. The two men headed for trial are Jonathan Holy White Man and Rodney Bottle, who are charged with aggravated assault stemming from an attack on a man Jan. 30 at the London Road Esso/Mac's store in the 700 block of 6 Avenue South. Both men pleaded not guilty during a hearing last week in Lethbridge provincial court, and a five-hour trial has been scheduled for June 13.
The men were arrested after police found a 35year-old man with life-threatening injuries, who had to be taken by EMS to Chinook Regional Hospital, then transferred to Calgary.
Following an investigation by the violent crimes unit, police also charged Jesse Dean Davidson, 23, and July Red Crow, 18.
Davidson is set to have a preliminary hearing in May, to determine whether there is enough evidence to warrant a trial, while Red Crow pleaded guilty earlier this month to one count of aggravated assault and was sentenced to two years in jail, minus two months he previously spent in custody.
Red Crow admitted he stabbed the victim three or four times after he and a group of people approached the man at the downtown gas station/convenience store. Court was told Red Crow, who was seen on surveillance video, later confessed and told police he attacked his victim because the man had threatened another person with a knife the day before.
