• The Opportunity Knocks Job and Career Fair will take place April 26 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Lethbridge Lodge Hotel. The event is free for the public to attend.
• Galt Museum’s Galt Workshops handson history program for adults and seniors continues April 26 from 7-9 p.m., featuring “Braided Rugs.” Learn about the history of Earth Day while creating a braided rug, a great way to recycle old fabric in your house. Admission fees apply; free to annual pass holders.
• Lethbridge Public Library will host the second talk in the “Up in Smoke” Speaker Series April 26 at 7 p.m. in the Theatre Gallery at the Main Branch. The presentation will feature “Cannabis and Youth” with guest speakers Chris Windle, health promotion facilitator with AHS Addiction and Mental Health and Courtney Barks, adolescent addictions counsellor.
• The University of Lethbridge will present “The Investor Ecosystem – The Practical Side of Pitching to Investors,” April 26, 5-7 p.m. at TH201, Turcotte Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend the wrapup event to celebrate the Entreinvestor Training Program, a University-Industry Liaison Office (UILO) course that teaches the essentials of engaging with investors to secure long-term investment. This event will be of interest to anyone who wants to know more about entrepreneurship, contracts or finance.
• Growing Abilities is a parent support and play group for children with differing abilities. It is open to parents/caregivers and their children with disabilities, as well as siblings and support staff. There will be planned activities based on children’s developmental needs, abilities and interests. There will also be open-ended activities for siblings and space for parents to connect. This group will be facilitated by an Early Childhood Educator and a Parent Educator, so one-on-one support is not available to children. Give it a try at Family Centre Downtown on Fridays from 2-3:30 p.m. at #225, 200 4 Ave. S. The program is free but people are asked to register by calling 403-320-4232.
• Celebrate Recovery — a Christ centred recovery program for any hurt, hang-up and habit, meets Friday nights at Park Meadows Baptist Church, 2011 15 Ave. N. 6 p.m. - supper ($3); 7 p.m. large group; 8 p.m. - open share small groups; 9 p.m. - Solid Rock Cafe. • Nordbridge Bingo welcomes the public (18 and over) for a cash bingo with no surcharges Fridays at 1 p.m. (except holidays) at 1904 13 Ave. N. A regular book is $5, extra games $1 each. • Helen Schuler Nature Centre drop-in clean-up sessions, as part of the annual Coulee Clean-up program, are planned for April 27, 4-6 p.m. at the Galt Museum (meet at Galt Museum parking lot); May 1, 7-8 p.m. at St. Pat’s Cemetery (meet at cemetery parking lot); May 2 ,78 p.m. at 10 Street West (road to Popson/Cottonwood – meet at 10 Street W. and University Drive W.); May 24, 7-9 p.m. at Cottonwood Park (meet at parking lot).
• The next Kids, Tots and Babes
Garage Sale will take place April 28 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the West Pavilion at Exhibition Park. Registration is now open for table rentals. Rent a table to sell your children’s used toys, clothing, games, sports equipment and anything else kid- or maternity-related. This is a great community recycling program that keeps items out of our landfills and provides the opportunity to purchase items for families at lower costs.
•The annual Lethbridge Bike Swap will take place April 28 in the North Pavilion at Exhibition Park. Bike drop-off from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., bike sale from 2:30-4 p.m. The aim of the event is to give bikes a second chance a keep them out of the landfill. The swap is a non-profit event that returns half of the profits back into the community to fund safe cycling and make informative tech-check bikes accessible. • Galt Museum’s Saturdays at 1:00 hands-on history program for adults to attend with children continues April 28 from 1-2 p.m., featuring “Arbor Day.” Learn more about how Arbor Day was started and create your own painting of trees in celebration of this day. Admission fees apply; free to annual pass holders.
• McGill Boulevard Music and Arts will hold its final recital of its 10th-anniversary year April 28 at 4 and 7 p.m. at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church, 260 McGill Blvd. West. Partnered since 2007 in ministry with Maranatha Christian Reformed Church, McGill offers affordable music and arts lessons. It is a non-profit organization relying on donations and grants to operate. • Latin Music Live, a fundraiser for Music For Life Africa (MULIA), will take place April 28 at The Miz City Church, 502 13 St. N., featuring a new Lethbridge band, Latino Rev. Tickets are $10 at the door or in advance at Blueprint Records, 519, 4 Ave. S. Latino Rev consists of 14 members including Erica Hunt and Ashley Thomson on vocals, Brad Brauwer on drums, Bente Hansen on piano, and Ryan Heseltine on alto sax. The event will feature classic Latin songs, one of which will be in collaboration with a performance by local traditional Colombian dance group Mi Colombia Linda. Food will include empanadas and a taco bar provided by local caterer Antojitos. All proceeds will benefit MULIA, which aims to cultivate the artistic talents of disadvantaged children in a Ugandan village.
• The Dutch Canadian Club invites the public to the annual “King’s Birthday Ball” (Oranjiebal in Dutch), a dinner and dance April 28 at the SAEA Building, 421 6 Ave. S. Cocktails at 6:30 p.m. Music for the dance by “Doug & Friends,” after a wonderful multicourse meal. • Vox Musica Choral Society, conductor Glenn Klassen, will present Mozart Requiem with members of the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Southminster United Church, 1011 4 Ave. S. The all-Mozart evening also features guest artists Musaeus performing Serenade in G Major, K. 525 (Eine Kleine Nachtmusik) and Divertimento in F Major, K.138. Tickets $25, available at Casa (cash, debit, credit card) and at the door (cash only). Children 12 and under free with paying adult.
• Legends Pub and Grill, 2433 Fairway Plaza Rd. S., will host a benefit event April 28 4 p.m. to midnight, featuring a silent auction, 50/50 draw and a variety of live music. $10 admission fee. • Shaughnessy Community Centre, 133 3 St., will hold its monthly Pancake Breakfast (cost $5) April 28 from 8 a.m.11 a.m. Secondhand Treasures rooms will be open.
• “Along the Road to Freedom: Mennonite women of courage and faith,” an exhibit featuring 26 paintings by Winnipeg artist Ray Dirks, will open April
28 at the Gem of the West Museum in Coaldale, 1306 20 Ave. 10:30 a.m. Mennonite Historical Society of Alberta AGM; 1:30 p.m. - Exhibit opening program and reception. Dirks will present the “Along the Road to Freedom” story; local stories will be shared by Henry Janzen, Herta Janzen and Henry Heidebrecht. Donations accepted.
• Ben Price Magic will present “Rabbit Stew,” an interactive magic show April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod. The event is a fundraiser for the Empress Theatre. • Tai Chi and Qigong Day 2018 will be celebrated April 28 in more than 70 countries, and the LSCO will take part with a free event from 10-11 a.m. (500 11 St. S.). Tai chi enthusiasts and friends are invited.
• McKillop United Church Neighbourhood Flea Market and Garage Sale will take place April 28 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the church, 2329 15 Ave. S. • The Jayman BUILT MS Walk, presented by Mr. Lube, will take place April 28 at Henderson Lake Park. Checkin at 8:30 a.m., walk starts at 10 a.m. This family oriented, community-supported event raises funds in support of those affected by MS. Participants can choose from varying route lengths, including a wheelchair accessible route for participants using mobility aids. More information is available online at mswalks.ca.
• Lethbridge author Al Barnhill will be signing copies of his new book, “Irrepressible Maggie...,” April 28 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Chapters in Park Place mall. All proceeds to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
• South Country Jamboree Society will hold a jam session April 29 starting at 1 p.m. at Lethbridge Legion Memorial Hall. Meals available from Great Plate Catering after 3 p.m.
