A Cirque du Soliel production that’s entertained more than eight million fans will be coming to Lethbridge this autumn.

A cast of 51 acrobats, musicians, singers and actors from around the world are part of “Corteo,” an arena-style show booked Oct. 31 to Nov. 4 at the Enmax Centre.

Tickets for the seven scheduled performances go on sale May 11 at

cirquedusoleil.com/corteo — but promoters say they’re available now online for those who join the no-charge Cirque Club online.

The story begins with a festive parade — as imagined by a clown. He pictures his own funeral taking place with a carnival atmosphere.

“The show brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity, situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth,” its directors say.

It “highlights the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the portion of humanity that is within each of us.”

Created in Montreal in 1984, Cirque du Soleil now employs more than 4,000 men and women from nearly 50 nations. Over the years, its various touring groups have performed for about 180 million spectators, viewing one or more of its 42 different shows.
