• Growing Abilities is a parent support and play group for children with differing abilities. It is open to parents/caregivers and their children with disabiliti­es, as well as siblings and support staff. There will be planned activities based on children’s developmen­tal needs, abilities and interests. There will also be open-ended activities for siblings and space for parents to connect. This group will be facilitate­d by an Early Childhood Educator and a Parent Educator, so one-on-one support is not available to children. Give it a try at Family Centre Downtown on Fridays from 2-3:30 p.m. at #225, 200 4 Ave. S. The program is free but people are asked to register by calling 403-320-4232.

• TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) ,a non-profit organizati­on which provides support to people wanting to lose weight, meets regularly in Lethbridge and area. Details: Eileen Schmidt, 403-4052410, or visit www.tops.org.

• Nordbridge Bingo welcomes the public (18 and over) for a cash bingo with no surcharges Fridays at 1 p.m. (except holidays) at 1904 13 Ave. N. A regular book is $5, extra games $1 each. • The Hop Into Spring Market will take place May 12 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Exhibition Park (Heritage Building), 3401 Parkside Drive S. Donations at the door for the Last Chance Cat Ranch.

• A Free Community Barbecue to celebrate the grand re-opening of Ivory Dental (formerly Rollingson and Heggie Dentistry) will be held May 12 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Ivory Dental parking lot, 336 Columbia Blvd. West. Hotdogs, chips and pop. Grand prize draw for an iPad, and other prizes to be won.

• The Rehoboth Garden Centre in Coaldale will host its Annual Spring Sale and Barbecue May 12. Coffee on at 9:30 a.m., BBQ and Bake Sale 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Garden centre will be open from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Come check out the bedding plants, perennials, hanging baskets, patio furniture, weaving and gardening supplies. • The Etsy: Made in Canada Spring

• Kids Club and MAKEbreak Crafting Classes take place on weekends at Michaels Craft Store at Park Place, designed for kids of all ages. The upcoming schedule includes: May 12: Kids Club Flowers for Mom, 10 a.m.noon, ages 3+, $2 per project, supplies included; Kids Club Flowers for Mom, 10 a.m.-noon, ages 6+, $5 per project, supplies included; MAKEbreak Mother’s Day Frame, 1-3 p.m. Buy the frame and the rest of the supplies are included.

• Helen Schuler Nature Centre’s Junior Naturalist­s program for kids ages 6-10 continues May 12 from 10 a.m.-noon, featuring “Birds.” Adults must sign children in and pick them up promptly at noon. More details, call 403-320-3064.

• Galt Museum’s Saturdays at 1:00 program for children to attend with adults continues May 12 from 1-2 p.m., featuring “Manners Tea.” How would your manners have held up at a 20th century tea party? Come and learn how manners have changed over the decades while testing out your etiquette with a tasty treat. Admission fees apply; free to annual pass holders.

• “Party on the Square!” will take place May 12, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Casa, 230 8 St. S. Everyone is welcome to attend the fifth anniversar­y celebratio­n of Casa, the space the U of L Conservato­ry of Music calls home. The party includes live music, a barbecue, cake and facility tours.

• University of Lethbridge will present Culture Vulture: Sculpt May 12 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Atrium, University Centre for the Arts. Anyone who wants to learn how to make a stop-motion video is invited to this session of Culture Vulture. Participan­ts will be making clay characters and backdrops out of recycled materials to use in creating their videos. Those attending are asked to bring a phone or tablet to capture their movie. Free apps for stop-motion include Imotion or Stop Motion Studio.

• The second annual free Comic Con event will take place May 12 at the Crossings Branch Library (255 Britannia Blvd. W.) 10 a.m.: Superhero story time; 11 a.m.: A screening of Wonder Woman (PG), with popcorn; 1:30 p.m.: Panels, presentati­ons and workshops where local groups will share their expertise; 2:30 p.m.: A Cosplay Contest open to anyone who wants to dress up as their favourite character. There will be two categories based on the age of the cosplayers (12 and under, and 13 and over). At 2 p.m., the Lethbridge Public Library Main Branch will host a showing of the movie “Megamind (PG) in the Theatre Gallery.

• “Let the Bells Ring Out,” a concert of handbell music, will take place May 12 at 7 p.m. at Gilbert Paterson Middle School, 2109 12 Ave. S. Featuring the Chi-Rho Ringers, Salvation Army Bells, First B Bells, McKillop United Bells, Bridge Bells and Gilbert Paterson Middle School. Free admission; donations welcome. • Six O'clock in the Chapel, an evening Vesper service with beautiful music, will be held May 12 at 6 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel at Southminst­er United Church, featuring reflection­s by Jane Meaker. This brief, intimate service is open to everyone. Enter at the chapel doors, 1011 4 Ave. S.

• West Wind Gymnastics Club offers drop-in fun on Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. It’s a great opportunit­y to practise your gymnastic skills in a friendly, supervised environmen­t. Age 5 and under $6 and must be accompanie­d by an adult; 6 and older $12.

• Trigeminal Neuralgia Support Group meets the second Saturday of the month at 2 p.m. in Room C and D at the LSCO, 500 11 St. S. Trigeminal neuralgia is a neuropathi­c disorder characteri­zed by episodes of intense pain in the face, originatin­g from the trigeminal nerve. • The German Canadian Club of Lethbridge, 902 6 St. N., will host a Mother’s Day Brunch presented by Chef Al Scherer May 13 from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Cost: $20 for ages 15 and up; children 3-14, $1/year of age. • All women are invited to a Dinner and Fashion Show May 15 at 7 p.m. at Luigi’s Banquet Room in Taber. Featured will be fashions from Blue Sage Boutique, with Arlene Hammerling from Lethbridge; music by Kristi Mitchell from Brooks; and inspiratio­n from speaker Leona Wall from Vauxhall.
