West Wind gymnasts prepare for nationals

MEET-AND-GREET FOR POTENTIAL SPONSORS BEING HELD TONIGHT

-

Three members of the West Wind Gymnastics Club’s Men’s Artistic Gymnastics program will be attending the Canadian National Championships in Waterloo Ont. next week.

After a successful Western Canadian Championships in April, Thoran Malitowski, Riley Johnson and Jackson Lowe will experience their first competition representing Alberta at the national level. To help with expenses for the athletes, the not-for-profit organization is seeking financial assistance from the community.

“This is the first time in the club’s history that it will be sending three athletes to Nationals. They have been training around 20 hours per week and deserve all of the success that they have had this year,” says head coach Jamie Ellacott, who will guide the Alberta team of seven boys at the competition which begins Monday.

West Wind is hoping to raise $8,000 to successfully send Jackson, Thoran and Riley to their first nationals. In February 2019, Canada Winter Games in Red Deer will feature artistic gymnastics and they will all attend the trial competition this fall.

In this short time to raise funds, the gymnastics club is offering advertising space in the gym in exchange for sponsorship. They are inviting interested sponsors to come to the gym tonight from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. for a meet-and-greet with the athletes and their two coaches, a tour of the facility, and an opportunity to come on the gym floor and see what they do up close and personal.

The club has set up a Make a Champ fund where people can donate online at https://makeachamp.com/w wgc.
