• Taka Karate School will hold its Annual Karate Demonstration May 20 at 1 p.m. at the University of Lethbridge Main Theatre. $20 per person. The head teacher from Okinawa, Japan, as well as other teachers and students from Japan, will attend and take part in the demonstration. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Birds of Prey Centre. May 29-30 at the Sandman Hotel in Lethbridge. The event’s focus is on “Weaving Your Own Path.” The conference will provide participants of all walks of life with tools to begin weaving their own path; several professional and self-advocate speakers will share thoughts on various topics including what it means to belong, independence versus interdependence, finding employment and more. Keynote speaker Dave Hingsburger, director of clinical and educational services at Vita Community Living Services in Toronto, will discuss the importance of personal power and telling your own truth.
