Accused in horse theft case appears in court
A Stirling area farmer accused of stealing, then selling two horses to a processing facility near Fort Macleod, made his first appearance in Lethbridge provincial court Wednesday.
Wayne Jubb, who is charged with theft of cattle, trafficking stolen property and uttering forged documents, attended court with his lawyer, Art Larson, who told the judge that although he had received disclosure, he needed more time to discuss the case with the Crown prosecutor.
Raymond RCMP previously reported that the owner of the animals reported she had been boarding two horses at a Stirling area farm for five years. On April 9, she was contacted by a relative of the farm owner who informed her the owner had passed away and she would have to relocate the horses by the end of the month. The owner of the horses and her family members found a new boarding facility, but on April 28 the victim’s daughter arrived at the farm to collect the two horses and was told they had been sold.
Investigators determined a man had transported the horses to the Fort Macleod processing facility, and had falsified a livestock manifest and equine information document indicating he was the lawful owner of the horses.
The accused’s next court hearing is scheduled for June 14.
