• The London Drugs Recycling Roundup will take place June 9 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the London Drugs parking lot (Centre Village Mall). Materials residents can drop off include electronic­s, small appliances, CFL and LED light bulbs, fluorescen­t tubes (up to 4 ft), plastic and cardboard packaging, non-food related Styrofoam, soft plastic bags and household scrap metal accepted by National Salvage. Items for donation to More for Less Thrift Stores and Peak Support Services can also be dropped off, including clothing, household items, furniture and bicycles. • Helen Schuler Nature Centre will host Nature Play Day at Henderson Lake June

9 from noon-4 p.m. The event is a free family festival designed to get people outside and moving. Featuring parkour, outdoor games, loose parts playground, crafts, hammocks, live music, kayaking, pond dipping, food trucks and more.

• East Meets West, a dinner and concert fundraiser featuring country singer Trevor Panczak, and benefiting Galata Ministries’ work in Ethiopia and Kenya, will take place June

9 at La Cité Des Prairies, 2104 6 Ave. S. Dunk tank from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets $20; for tickets, call 403-3809154. For more details, visit www.galata ministries.org. • A book launch for “As Stones Study Stones: Words for Other Common Ravens,” an eclectic collection of original and re-imagined stone stories by Lethbridge author Patricia Poriz, will take place June 9 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Lethbridge Multicultu­ral Centre (421 6 Ave. S.; parking in back; from 5 Avenue S., turn onto 4 Street S.). Featuring author readings, a question-and-answer session, and the opportunit­y to purchase a signed copy of the book at a discounted rate.

• Six O'clock in the Chapel, an evening Vesper service with beautiful music, will be held June 9 at 6 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel at Southminst­er United Church, featuring music by Monica Baczuk, flute and piano, and a service led by Hilary Squires. This brief, intimate service is open to everyone. Enter at the chapel doors, 1011 4 Ave. S.

• West Wind Gymnastics Club offers drop-in fun on Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. It’s a great opportunit­y to practise your gymnastic skills in a friendly, supervised environmen­t. Age 5 and under $6 and must be accompanie­d by an adult; 6 and older $12.

• Galt Museum’s Indigenous History Program takes place every Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon, exploring Indigenous history through story-telling and hands-on activities. • The Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Fun Night June 12 starting at 5:30 p.m. This will be a pot-luck dinner; the Ladies Auxiliary will supply the roast beef and dinner buns, so please only bring sides and dessert. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., 324 Mayor Magrath Drive S. (north door). After dinner there will be games to play of your choice, crib, horse race game, bean bag toss. • “Wings Over Canada,” a slide show featuring birds from coast to coast, will be presented June 13 at 7 p.m. at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre. The presentati­on is by Canmore residents Jacinthe Lavoie and Ian Wilson, who spent five months travelling across Canada, photograph­ing birds along the way. The bird photos are set to classical music. Free admission; donations will be accepted. • Japanese Folk Dance practices continue Mondays through July 9 in preparatio­n for the annual Bon Odori Japanese Dance Festival and Bazaar, July

14. Everyone is invited to learn simple dances in readiness for the Festival. No experience is necessary. Weekly practices will start at 6:30; participan­ts who wish to go traditiona­l are asked to come a bit earlier to dress. Bon Odori is a colourful Buddhist folk dance of joy performed at Galt Gardens in a circle around a Taiko (drum) on a raised platform decorated with lanterns. Practices are held at the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta, 470 40 St. S. There is no registrati­on or fee. All ages are welcome. • Raymond Seniors Centre holds a pot luck the second monday and a supper social the last Thursday of each month. Both are reasonably priced. • Lasagna and Live Music will be featured June 15, with two events taking place the same evening at the Barons Community Hall, 209 Noble Street in Barons. Robbin’s Homemade Lasagna Dinner goes from 5-6:30 p.m., also featuring a silent auction and photo booth. $10 per person (children under 6 free). Takeout is available. The event is a fundraiser for Barons Memorial United Church. “Wingin’ It” takes place from 710 p.m., featuring singer/songwriter Lori Davidson and keyboardis­t/composer Rob Lamonica, who hail from Mazatlan, Mexico. $15 per adult, under 18 free.
