Summer Camps starting up in Lethbridge

-

We are just a couple of weeks away from the official start to summer, the Summer Solstice on June 21.

Only a few days later the kids will be out of school. Often it doesn’t take too long before the novelty wears off, and the kids get bored. A great way to head off the boredom is by registering for a summer camp.

We are quite fortunate in Lethbridge to have so many options to choose from not only in the regular season but also in the “ff-season.”

Growing up in small-town central Alberta, with only 800 residents in the nearby town, the summer camp options were pretty limited, if not non-existent. There was always lots to do on the farm, and I wouldn’t trade my summers of building tree-forts, biking to the neighbours, and helping my dad with chores for anything.

I will admit though that I sometimes envied the “city kids” with all their fun camps, especially if the chore of the day was picking rocks in the field.

One of the great parts about a summer camp is the opportunity to try a new sport or activity, without committing to a full season.

You can sign up for a week of climbing camp, even if you have never tried climbing before.

Always wanted to try synchronized swimming? There’s a camp for that. Maybe you tried Parkour at SportFest and loved it? They have camps running all summer long. Looking for a break from the heat this summer, or want to get a jump on the upcoming season? The Lethbridge Skating Club has learn-to-skate and power skating camps, and YQL Girls Hockey Development is running camps, too! The options go on for days.

The Lethbridge Sport Council website provides a location for sport groups to share their summer camps with the public. There are many community organizations and businesses that offer active camps, and we’ve done the work of gathering the details in one place so you can easily find the camp that works best for you.

Here is a list of some of the camps listed on our website, but be sure to check back regularly, as we add camps as we learn about them.
