Heroes of ancient Greece are the focus of a Fort Macleod author’s first novel.

Vincent Leepart hopes his book, “Dragons Blood: Odyssey to Dionysodoros: Tales from the Men of Bronze,” will be the first of a series of at least three books.

Inspiration for the novel comes from the ancient Greek poet Hesiod, who wrote about the Men of Bronze in his poem “Works and Days.”

Leepart quotes from Verse 140 from “Works and Days”:

“Zeus the father made a third generation of mortal men, a brazen race, sprung from the ash trees and it was in no way equal to the silver age, but was terrible and strong. They loved the lamentable works of Ares and deeds of violence; they ate no bread, but were hard of heart like adamant, fearful men. Great was their strength and unconquerable the arms which grew from their shoulders on their strong limbs.”

Gamden, the protagonist of “Dragons Blood,” is one of these men, says Leepart.

“Still young and naive, he will grow into one of these brazen men and discover his true fate which Zeus will unfold for him,” Leepart says in an email. “Charged by the King’s mage, Dramen, to retrieve dragons blood for his nefarious plans, Gamden travels the three seas to Dionysodoros... This is just the beginning on his journey of discovery of the world and himself.”

“Dragons Blood” is intended for teenagers and up, Leepart says of the self-published book, which is available through Amazon, Barnes&Noble, Smashwords and iBooks.
