Horns rugby rounds out coaching staff

University of Lethbridge Pronghorns head coach Neil Langevin has rounded out the coaching staff for the Pronghorns women’s rugby team for the coming Canada West season.

Langevin, who returned to lead the Horns as a full-time coach in May, announced JJ Ondrus as his assistant coach to round out his staff.

Ondrus, a long-time member of the program, played on the first Pronghorn team in 2000 and has also served as an assistant coach and head coach of the program.

She began her Pronghorns career in 1997 with the women’s soccer team before joining the rugby team.

Ondrus finished her fifth-year of eligibilit­y in 2001 when the Pronghorns captured their first win against UBC in the Canada West bronze medal game.

For the next 11 seasons, she was one of the Horns’ assistant coaches before stepping in as the interim head coach during the 2013 season and head coach for 2014.

Longtime assistant Rob Kossuth and former Pronghorn Tiffany Wideen return as assistant coaches, while associate head coach from last season, Ashley Steacy, will serve as skills coach for the upcoming season.

The remaining members of the Pronghorns staff are Rob Kossuth (scrum coach), Toby Boulet (game and travel manager), Norm McDougall (player identifica­tion), Sandy Slavin (academic support), Rob Kossuth (academic adviser-liaison), Rebecca DePasquale, Shandi Barker and Tetsuro Okada (student athletic therapists) and Ryan Thornley (strength and conditioni­ng).
