Junior Bulls finish roundrobin play 4-1 at Jr. nationals

Lethbridge Junior Bulls opened a quick 7-0 lead and rolled to a 13-3 five-inning victory over Team B.C. at the Canadian Junior Little League baseball championsh­ips Thursday at Spitz Stadium.

Lethbridge (4-1) scored three runs in the first and four in the second, then put the game away with three-run innings in the fourth and fifth.

David Stewart was two-for-three with three runs scored for the Bulls, while Payton Lyon was two-for-three with a pair of RBI.

Nathan Ritchie, Braedan Sheppard and Karsen Becker all scored two runs. The loss dropped B.C. to 1-4. In the first game of the day, Quebec completed an undefeated round-robin with an 11-1 victory over Team Alberta from Medicine Hat.

Quebec (5-0) scored seven runs in the first inning and cruised to the victory. Alex Blais was three-for-three from the lead-off spot with three RBI, while Benjamin Perreault-Jutras and Joel Ouellette both had two hits.

Christophe Lepage tossed five innings of two-hit ball for the victory. Medicine Hat fell to 2-3 with the loss. Team Atlantic improved to 2-3 with a 17-4 decision over Team Ontario. The teams were tied 3-3 after three innings, before Atlantic erupted for four runs in the fourth, and five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Adam Hicks was three-for-four with four runs scored, Darrian MacInnis was three-for-four with two runs scored and three RBI, and Mitchell MacDonald drove in four.

Ontario, now 1-4, was charged with eight errors.

No games are scheduled for today with the semifinals set for Saturday. Top seed Team Quebec will play No. 4 Team Atlantic in the first semi at 10:30 a.m. Saturday followed by No. 2 Lethbridge playing No. 3 Team Alberta from Medicine Hat at 2 p.m.
