Registering forCity swimlessons just got easier
Parents are urged to register their children online
With a new online booking option now available, parents in Lethbridge will no longer have to stand in line or call in to local City pools to register their kids for swimming lessons.
Jason Freund, Recreation Services manager for the City of Lethbridge, made the announcement Tuesday morning at the Nicholas Sheran Leisure Centre that online registration will be up and running before the sign-up date on Aug. 22.
“The software we have been using to this point in time, the City didn’t have the capability to do online (registration) to the capability we wanted,” explained Freund, who also admitted swimming lesson sign-up turmoil was one of the most common complaints his
department received each year. “I know we had hours of lineups before, and this should only take amatter of minutes.”
“We have had registrations where we have done 900 kids in a day,” added Brad Pack, generalmanager of Recreation Excellence Lethbridge. “That is a lot of waiting for some people.”
Pack said registering online is something most municipalities now do for things like swimming lessons, and it is something which saves parents frustration and makes it easier on staff during registration day.
Freund confirmed booking in person, or over the phone, for swimming lessons in the city remains an option, but he did not recommend it.
“We are recommending everybody go the online route,” he said. “The reality is we don’t know exactly how fast the lessons are going to fill up. If we take other cities’ experiences into account, registration could be over in as little as 10 or 20 minutes ... We do expect it to be a quick process.”
Freund said parents can go online and sign up for an account in advance of the Aug. 22 date, and be ready to click in quickly when registration opens at 9 a.m. that morning. Those interested in doing so can visit www.lethbridge.ca/swimlessons.
