- Dale Woodard LETHBRIDGE HERALD

The Pincher Creek Rodeo is riding into its silver anniversary.

The 25th Annual Pincher Creek Pro Rodeo is back for another go-round starting Thursday and running until Sunday.

In a town rich with rodeo history, the milestone is a special one.

“It really is something wonderful for us,” said Town of Pincher Creek events planner Marie Everts. “As a community, Pincher Creek is really rooted in rodeo. Pincher Creek was originally founded on a horse ranch, so there was a lot of rodeo that happened at that horse ranch. So having 25 years of pro rodeo here is very special to the community.

“Everything kicks off on Thursday and there are events almost every hour to Sunday afternoon. It’s quite the community event, there are lots of different things happening in the community.”

A world-class level of riders will also be onhand for the four-day event as well as an impressive list of local rodeo athletes.

Representing southern Alberta will be Dustin Flundra (saddle bronc, performing on Sunday), Josh Eirikson (tie down roping, Friday), Rowdy Hays (steer wrestling, Friday), Otys Little Mustache (steer wrestling, Friday), Cole Rutledge (steer wrestling, Sunday), Lana Sproule (barrel racing, Sunday), Hailey Gundersen (slack, Saturday) and Eirikson and Hays in team roping on Saturday.

We are really lucky to have some local riders as well who are participating in the pro rodeo and that makes it that much more special as well,” said Everts. “Because it’s pro they come from all over the world. We definitely get a very good turnout. We have the pro performance rodeo schedule on Friday at 7 p.m. and

Pincher Creek Rodeo is well known for being run well and people like to come out. We have a big dance on Saturday night.”

As it celebrates its silver anniversary, the Pincher Creek Rodeo continues strong.

“I think it's a combination of having a good rodeo in a wonderful location and embracing community,” said Everts. “Our community support is phenomenal and the riders and the competitors feel that and they always have a good time when they’re here so they want to come back again.”

Admission for adults is $15, $5 for juniors (6-14) and free for kids five-and-under.

The cabaret is $20 and only for those 18-and-older.
