GoFundMe page set up for family of hit-and-run victim
The family of a 26-year-old young father killed in a hit-and-run incident is asking the public for donations to help pay for his funeral.
Gage Good Rider was struck and killed while out walking with a friend in the early hours of Sept. 2 near the outskirts of Lethbridge. At the time the police did not have a suspect in custody, but have since arrested an individual who turned himself in connection with the incident. This was confirmed Good Rider’s cousin, Tiffany Tailfeathers, on Friday.
“We don’t know exactly what happened,” Tailfeathers told The Herald. “It is being investigated still. But we do know he was struck by a car and run over and died instantly. The police do have a guy in custody. He turned himself in, but they are still investigating the events which took place that morning.”
But having someone in custody for the incident does nothing to help the family cope with Good Rider’s death, or pay for his funeral expenses, said Tailfeathers.
“His mom and dad are taking it really hard,” she confirmed. “They lost their other son, Gage’s older brother, a few years ago and they have not gotten over that. The reserve pays for a little bit of the funeral, but the rest you have to pay for on your own. That’s why I decided to start the GoFundMe page for Gage.”
The campaign has so far raised about $500 to help, but Tailfeathers is hoping to raise about $3,000 more to at least take this one stress off Good Rider’s remaining family members.
“It would really help his parents because they don’t have money to cover the funeral on their own,” said Tailfeathers. “They are having a really hard time even planning the funeral. They just break down crying and can’t focus on what needs to be done. They are just really grieving hard. We will get this planned and paid for no matter what because it needs to be done, but any help is appreciated at this time.”
To give to the campaign visit
Good Rider’s funeral will be held on Tuesday at noon at St. Paul’s Anglican on the Blood Reserve.
